taz112 Posted August 23, 2015 #1 Posted August 23, 2015 The question I have is, could I have done any damage to my engine running it on 3 cylinders for about a 1000 miles? Did not realize I was lacking a cylinder. It is a 1986 Venture Royal. Sent from my NX785QC using Tapatalk
lonestarmedic Posted August 23, 2015 #2 Posted August 23, 2015 Probably not. Just a dead cylinder pumping air for a while. Might change the oil. Could have a tiny bit of unburnt fuel went past the rings into crankcase. Talking maybe a tablespoon or so.
Flyinfool Posted August 23, 2015 #3 Posted August 23, 2015 Very unlikely to have caused any damage. But there is a slight possibility IF the "dead" cylinder was actually running but very lean.
cowpuc Posted August 23, 2015 #4 Posted August 23, 2015 Highly doubtful, about the only thing I can think of would be a dead cylinder from way to much fuel leading to hydro lock but if that would have happened during your ride you would be on here asking other questions.. Tweeks, our 83 with 300k on her now, came to us in the same condition. I rode her home after purchase on 3 - found the dismembered carb diaphram on the dead cylinder, put the diaphram back together, stuck in some new plugs, tossed on a sync and an oil change and headed west... She only had 28k on her then....
taz112 Posted August 29, 2015 Author #5 Posted August 29, 2015 Think I found the problem. Took heat shrink and covered from plug cap and back about 10 inches. Back to 4 cylinders. Thanks for all your help. Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
