taz112 Posted August 20, 2015 #1 Posted August 20, 2015 Can anybody tell me the location of the pilot jet on 1986 Venture Royal carbs? I have one cylinder that has spark but not firing. Was told this would be a good place to start. Sent from my NX785QC using Tapatalk
Marcarl Posted August 20, 2015 #2 Posted August 20, 2015 Pilot jet that I think you are refering to is hidden behind an aluminum cap. Remove the cap and you'll find it. It's on the outside of the carb, facing you as you look at it. Before you go through that effort though, check to make sure there is fuel in the carb by draining it, and\or, by squirting some carb cleaner, WD40 into the throat while it running to see if that cylinder will fire.
BlueSky Posted August 21, 2015 #3 Posted August 21, 2015 Are you sure the spark plug is firing? The reason I ask is that on my Kawasaki, it had a dead cylinder. I verified there was spark to the plug cap by using a conductor to tough against the block. But, the spark plug was dead. Swapping two spark plugs showed me the real problem. Have you looked at the manual on this site?
taz112 Posted August 21, 2015 Author #5 Posted August 21, 2015 OK... So I tried cleaning everything that I could reach without taking the carb off. I tried the plug in the wire out of the cylinder and it has spark. I tried putting some gas in the carb and nothing. I sprayed carb cleaner in all carbs and 3 respond, back right does not. Any ideas where to go from here? Thanks for what ever help you can offer. Signed befuddled!!! Sent from my NX785QC using Tapatalk
taz112 Posted August 21, 2015 Author #6 Posted August 21, 2015 Where do I go to pay my membership dues? Want to pay but can't figure out how. Thanks Sent from my NX785QC using Tapatalk
Marcarl Posted August 22, 2015 #7 Posted August 22, 2015 If you sprayed carb cleaner into the carbs and they all responded except that one, then you have an ignition issue, so change the plug. You msy change it with one from another cylinder, and if your issue moves, you have your answer.
BlueSky Posted August 22, 2015 #8 Posted August 22, 2015 You might want to check the compression just in case.
Vonwolf Posted August 22, 2015 #9 Posted August 22, 2015 I had this problem with my bike for a long time on #2 cylinder. I checked the coils, both for power and resistance, then I checked the #2 coil wire at the TCI, if you run the bike and put a 12v test light on the out to coil side it will look like really fast strobe light, then check the wire and cap resistance and make sure there is spark. I did all this and still no fire on 2 the plug would look like it fired, but it wasn't translating to a running #2. It turned out that the spark plug wires were bleeding out energy and killing the hole so I replaced the cap and wire and it's on all 4 cylinders. If you have access to a Service Manual it gives a good step by step to check you ignition I did check the compression first
