Freebird Posted August 10, 2015 #1 Posted August 10, 2015 I posted a topic a few weeks ago questioning whether or not we should continue having an International Rally. It seems that most folks do want to see it continue but also with less prizes and etc. So I think we will try that next year. This will just be a meeting place, some good planned rides and visiting. I will leave it up to the hosts whether or not they want to cater a dinner one night, do a restaurant, whatever. Maybe there will be some door prizes but nothing fancy I don't think. Again, just will be left up to whomever decides to host it. So where should we have it? I am going to approach that topic a bit differently this time also. I usually ask you people where you want it to be and we end up with a long list of favorite places but few people who are actually willing to organize it. So, I'm not asking this time where you think it should be. I'm asking WHO wants to volunteer to do the work. Host the rally. Set up hotel discounts, find campgrounds, etc. So that is the question for this thread. Who is willing to step up and host the 2016 International Rally. I'll give this a week or two. If we have multiple volunteers, then we will put it for a vote. I will also say that it should be somewhere different than recent rallies. For example, we've had two in Indiana and one of them was just a couple of years ago so I doubt there would be enough interest in another there so soon. That is not to say that it has to be a place where we have never been. Colorado, Arkansas, etc. were great locations and they were several years back. So.....are YOU ready to host it? If so, let's hear your idea.
Freebird Posted August 10, 2015 Author #2 Posted August 10, 2015 To get this going, I'll throw out the first one. Maggie Valley, NC I will step up and offer to be the point person for this location. I will take care of all the arrangements and etc. Yes, it is far to the East for some people. That is why this thread is open to anybody wanting to jump in and offer to help somewhere else. So my submission is for Maggie Valley, NC. I am volunteering to take care of it if this location is chosen. This is very preliminary. I don't have pricing, possible room discounts, etc. But here is the place that I would target for the host hotel. http://www.smokyfallslodge.com
SilvrT Posted August 10, 2015 #3 Posted August 10, 2015 It's called "International" ... so maybe it's time it was held in CANADA ... eh? c'mon fellow Canucks!! (No, I'm not volunteering) Keep in mind your US dollar buys a lot more up here these days.
StarFan Posted August 10, 2015 #4 Posted August 10, 2015 I sincerely will offer to host this rally next year. Location will be Reykjavik Iceland. Since it is an International Rally I think it is about time to move it out of the States. So what do you all say - Iceland next year ? (There we go again - another Rally with only me and Kristjan / krben) Jonas / StarFan
slowrollwv Posted August 10, 2015 #5 Posted August 10, 2015 Jonas I would love to come to Iceland for a rally. But I would have to come alone as the wife will not get on a plane.
eusa1 Posted August 10, 2015 #6 Posted August 10, 2015 glad to see this going in a positive direction and please keep in mind that if ya want to have it in YOUR chosen area, your going to have to step up to the plate to host. thanks for offering to host Don!! I will offer my daughters talent to make another t-shirt/ banner design also.
Aussie Annie Posted August 10, 2015 #7 Posted August 10, 2015 Thank you Freebird for offering to host 2016
Black Owl Posted August 10, 2015 #8 Posted August 10, 2015 Well Don, as you may well remember, the rally in Ft Collins proved that the committee (for lack of a better title) did not need to be on site to put together a great rally. Squidly was the driving force on that one from Michigan with folks from all around the country, and Canada, stepping up to give him a hand. Of course after all was said and done he swore he would never do another one. NC is way off he radar for me, but I am more than willing to give you any assistance I can from here in fly over land.
Black Owl Posted August 10, 2015 #9 Posted August 10, 2015 It's called "International" ... so maybe it's time it was held in CANADA ... eh? c'mon fellow Canucks!! (No, I'm not volunteering) Keep in mind your US dollar buys a lot more up here these days. Hey, High River, Alberta, nestled in the foot hills of the Rockies would be an excellent location for holding an IR in Canada.
SilvrT Posted August 10, 2015 #10 Posted August 10, 2015 Hey, High River, Alberta, nestled in the foot hills of the Rockies would be an excellent location for holding an IR in Canada. I've hosted, co-hosted, and assisted 3 Kruisn the Kootenays in Nelson, BC. There is no better area west of Ontario IMHO. Perhaps I'll consider volunteering myself but like others have stated and personal experience, it very much is a big job especially when doing it from afar. Unfortunately the biggest issue I see with holding a rally of this nature in that area is .... a lack of USA attendees

Actually, I think you might actually be a bit surprised at the number of 'mericans that would show up.
steamer Posted August 11, 2015 #12 Posted August 11, 2015 Jonas, Maybe you could hire a small ship to transport all our bike's to the land of Ice:whistling:
Freebird Posted August 11, 2015 Author #13 Posted August 11, 2015 Some of you are getting off track already. Like I said, it does no good to simply offer locations. Only offer a suggestion if you are willing to organize something there.
XV1100SE Posted August 11, 2015 #14 Posted August 11, 2015 Just asking... if the event were to be held in Canada (either West as has been suggested or in Ontario)...would anyone from the U.S.A. object? Who would be interested in coming across the border? Who would object?
cowpuc Posted August 11, 2015 #15 Posted August 11, 2015 Just asking... if the event were to be held in Canada (either West as has been suggested or in Ontario)...would anyone from the U.S.A. object? Who would be interested in coming across the border? Who would object? +3 (Tweeks, Tip n Puc) who would not object one teeny weeny little bit about an IVR either west or east side of your great country!!! Definitely be interested if at all possible on our end!!

ragtop69gs Posted August 11, 2015 #17 Posted August 11, 2015 Let me toss this one out there. I've seen there is a Cruise ship company that offers cruise/ride vacations where you take your motorcycle and ride at the various ports of call. Planning would be easy because the cruise company does most of it.
Freebird Posted August 11, 2015 Author #18 Posted August 11, 2015 We're sorry for hijacking the thread Don but don't you think maybe this open discussion might lead to the resolve you're after? OK...discuss as you wish but all I am saying is that it is pointless to offer up locations unless somebody is willing to host it there. If somebody wants a rally in a specific place then they should also be willing to host it and/or put together a group to host it. Every year just a bunch of wishes and wants are submitted but nobody is willing to step up and do it. Once we have a list of locations with volunteers to handle it, we will then have a discussion and vote to reach a final decision. Any location submitted without a volunteer associated with it will not be included in that discussion and vote. As for Canada, if somebody wants to step up and volunteer to hold it there, it will be included in that final decision making process. I don't know if it stands a chance or doesn't. My main concern is that many Americans do not have nor will get passports. I may be wrong though and the vote will determine that.
OrlinEngh Posted August 11, 2015 #19 Posted August 11, 2015 I talked with Sharon and we are willing to host one here in our area here in Wisconsin, Orlin
eusa1 Posted August 11, 2015 #20 Posted August 11, 2015 I talked with Sharon and we are willing to host one here in our area here in Wisconsin, Orlin there is the spirit of this conversation!! thank you Orlin & Sharon for the Wisconsin hat in the ring, and Freebird for the Nc. hat in the ring
Freebird Posted August 11, 2015 Author #21 Posted August 11, 2015 Yes, THANK YOU. Now we have two choices. Keep them coming folks.
NSA Joe Posted August 11, 2015 #22 Posted August 11, 2015 Even though Indiana has had 2 of them Debbie and I would host one in our area. Completely understand if has been to soon. Joe
eusa1 Posted August 11, 2015 #23 Posted August 11, 2015 looks like a three hats in the ring circus at this point, thank you for stepping up. It still comes down to a vote of the group where this would land if I understand it correctly
seabeetom Posted August 11, 2015 #24 Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) This is what I would call a 'Destination/Vacation Ride'. Suggest Sunday thru Friday, October. Just for the heck of it, I'm gonna throw this promo out there just in case anyone ever considered the MS. Gulf Coast: Best time of year; October, 12 CasinoResorts, rooms half price Sun-Thur. Events; Cruisinthecoast-couple thousand classic cars, second week-Biloxi. Beauvoir (last home of Jefferson Davis)-Biloxi. Biloxi Shuckers AA Baseball team and stadium-Biloxi. Camp Shelby Armed Forces Museum-Hattiesburg. Angola Prison Museum and Rodeo, N of Baton Rouge every Sunday, New Orleans 70 miles. National D-Day Museum, French Quarter/Market/Bourbon St,. River Road to mouth of MS River. Avery Island (Tabasco) near Lafayette LA. Mobile Al. 70 miles. Battleship Park, Bellingrath Gardens, Bayou La Batre (Run Forrest Run). Pensacola Naval Air Museum 145 miles. Cajun food/seafood till your buttons burst (can you spell MUDBUGS?). Much more to see and do. You can always google these places for more info. But then again, distance for many becomes a factor. OK, that's my pitch for the home team. Of course you ask if I would step up to host if the interest is there, to which I answer, "Can Do an October gathering" " Laissez Les bons temps Rouler " !! Leave Our Flag Alone !! eusa1 Posted August 11, 2015 #25 Posted August 11, 2015 looks like a fourth hat in the ring, thanks Tom!!
