Looking for some basic advice. I stumbled upon a pre 1955 Cushman Scooter today (barn find). The owner bought it used when he was 10 years old. He's 70 now. He rode it around his farm for years. It was last running 10 years ago when he parked it. He's confident he could get it started without too much trouble today, I.e. Engine not seized. It was stuffed into the back of a shed with not much lighting but the tires were still up and the body appears in reasonable shape with all the obvious parts still in tact, I.e. Headlight, seat, fenders, etc. I don't know what the year is and it's unlikely there's title for it which doesn't matter to me. The seat is hinged (in the front) and lefts forward to reveal the top of the engine. Anyways, any advice on what one should reasonably pay for something like that (in Canada remember)? From reading Bills various posts on his Cushman love affairs, it's kind of intriguing! The owner is not convinced he wants to sell it but I'll check with him again in a few days for a yes or no. Thanks in advance. Doug

Hi Sonshine!!

IMHO, it all depends on the model of Cushman.. By your definition, can we assume it is this model?

If so, again IMHO, I would guesstimate between 1000 and 1500 US Dollars would be about tops for a restoreable and 3000 US TOPS for a high end restored at this time. Of course that is totally dependant on over all condition/parts missing.. There are many many "clubs" and other ways to get anything and everything you will need (including stickers - you HAVE to have repop manufacturers stickers ya know!!) to do a restore.

That particular model does not demand the higher resale as the Eagle shown below. Back in "the day" before the weak economy - this model was a 7500 US bike all day long (for a number 10 of course), currently seeing them at the sales for 5 and under..

That great big grin of yours would make either model look really good there Doug!!

Yup, might have known you'd be right up on these Dad. It's very much like the step-through red one, first pic at the top of the ones you sent. Has all the side panels covering the engine compartment and rear wheel. Only this one is blue. Thanks for your input Puc, much appreciated. Doug

I always thought mine was a 1957 but looking at the pictures it looked more like the 1952 and it was blue. getting old but I was just a kid and it was a birthday present from Mom and Dad. Oh to be a kid again.

A Cushman Eagle when I was a kid was the impetus for my life-long love affair with motorcycles. Unfortunately, it wasn't mine but my good buddies.....my folks wouldn't allow me to have one in spite of my pleading and threats. When I got to adulthood, a bike was one of my first purchases when I could afford it. Would love to have a restored Cushman today but the ones I've seen for sale are pricey.

the cushman you describe is either a 50 series 1946 to 48, or a 60 series 1949 to 1956. the difference in the two is the sides of the body are straight up and down on the 50 series and slant in toward the top on the sixty series. the one with no transmission is a pacemaker. if it has a 2 speed transmission it is a roadking. most of them had a 4 hp engine. some later ones had a 7 hp engine. you can tell the difference in the engine by the fins on the cylinder. the 4 hp has round fins looking down from the top and the 7 hp has big square fins. in the condition you describe i would say $ 700.00 to $1400.00. the title makes it worth alot more. alot of new parts are available from dennis carpenter cushman parts. eagles are worth alot more i'm restoring one now and it ill go for around $5700.00. i have built some vanguard powered eagles from $10,000.00 to $45000.00. if you get hooked on cushmans you can get into serious money. we custom build them from scratch with our own design 4 speed transmission and modified v-twins. they will top 100 mph.

Thanks Bill. Very helpful. I'll see what the owner wants to do today. Doug
