DblTrbl Posted August 7, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2015 Has anyone tried the Kicker PS44, 2 way (4 ohm) speakers in their RSV? Is so, do you like them? Pros/cons? ease of installation (modification required?)? Any other speaker recommendations welcomed.
Wizard765 Posted August 7, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 7, 2015 I know a few folks have used the Polk Audio DB401 speakers and they seem to be an improvement over the stock BUT 4" is still 4" and you can only get so much out of that small a speaker.. The DB401s are also marine grade so water won't hurt them
bongobobny Posted August 7, 2015 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2015 I put some Kenwood 3 way speakers in mine and the clarity is better but there is no bottom end which is simple physics of a 4" speaker.
slowrollwv Posted August 7, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2015 I put a set of Kickers in the fairing but did not keep them in long. Got a set of the DB-401. They are a good fit without filing the bolt holes like I had to with the Kickers.
DblTrbl Posted August 8, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted August 8, 2015 Crutchfield no long has the DB401s. I did find some on Amazon for $58/pair. I know they will fit the front but, will they fit in the rear speaker pods?
slowrollwv Posted August 8, 2015 Share #6 Posted August 8, 2015 Yes they are the same size.
JohnT Posted August 10, 2015 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2015 The modifications I needed for the Kickers in my 1st Gen are worth the effort. (IMNSHO) Be sure to buy a 600Hz high pass filter and install inline. This stops lower frequencies that the speakers are not meant to reproduce. My stereo now kind of looks like Dr Frankenstein installed the 6x9's in the fairing, but when I crack it open at work, people can't believe it. And it helps us sell more high (over) priced Boom Audio stuff. If looking at the Kicker 4" 2 ways, be sure to check specs. On 2 models of 4 ohm 2 ways, one has higher power handling capability. Worth the extra few bucks if you have a high power amp.
