I think I need to use a longer bolt that goes thur the passenger foot rest mount so the Hitch hardware can be mounted then with another lock washer and a bolt.

Could someone please verify that, thank you.

Yes, a longer muffler mounting bolt is required. The longer bolt will thread through the frame tab and project enough to hang the trailer hitch onto. Install a lock washer and nut. Make sure the bolt is not so long that it interferes with the swing arm. It is a tight area to work on. You may find yourself using some curse words as you attempt to get that washer and nut onto the longer bolt and tighten it all up.

Once you find the correct length bolt, I had to start the bolt thru the nut welded to the frame then get everything started on the end of the bolt before I ran it all the way in. If you start with the bolt all the way in it will be close enough to the swing arm that you will not be able get the nut started. If you use anything shorter, the bolt will not be long enough to reach thru the nut. Its tight in there.

I do not remember which side it was but I think I had to cut a bit off the end of one of the new bolts.

Since these are the bolts that will take most of the acceleration and braking loads, get high strength bolts, either Class 12.9 or 10.9. I would not use Class 8.8 or ungraded or stainless steel.

Yea. Everything they said. Longer bolt. Start nut as soon as the bolt shows it's threaded face on the inside. Glad to see you back working on the bike. How did the carb issue work out ?

All interesting compared to my install. My forward hitch mount is sandwiched between the muffler tab and the frame. Therefore on the OUTSIDE of the frame rail. Now, I currently have MAC mufflers on so I do not have that huge rubber mount on the muffler. However I did have it that way with the stock mufflers. Everything lined up that way including the rear mounts. I will take some pictures later today and see if that helps.
