Are these two boards supposed to be the same?? My problem with tci is I have no advance with rpm.
videoarizona Posted July 28, 2015 #2 Posted July 28, 2015 Can't answer that...but hope you were the one who took out the diodes...right??!!
garyS-NJ Posted July 28, 2015 Author #3 Posted July 28, 2015 Haha yes. The diodes looked bad corroded. And the brown goop I assume was for water protection almost seemed randomly applied. I'd like to re-goop it but with what? Fish tank sealer? The brown goop was nice in that it was pliable yet tacked some big caps. . And it flowed and sealed yet peeled up for rework. Rtv won't peel.
garyS-NJ Posted July 28, 2015 Author #4 Posted July 28, 2015 Oh and it was the brown goop that discolored the #18 duaghterboard. Maybe it was acid cure.
garyS-NJ Posted July 28, 2015 Author #5 Posted July 28, 2015 omg, reworked the TCI with 8 new diodes and ohmed it out as best I could and reflowed connections and it still didn't work. I noticed damage on one of the daughterboards (where the brown goop was) and there was an open across a film resistor where on the other board I measured 420 ohm. so I just put in three resistors to replace the film resistor and fingers crossed. word to others, don't remove the brown goop from a daughterboard as this might have lifted my resistor.. but the tci is doing exactly what it did before (no advance) so I don't think I damaged it (maybe just the brown goop with moisture corroded the film resistor away..). Anyone have a spare TCI to sell?
garyS-NJ Posted July 28, 2015 Author #6 Posted July 28, 2015 ok I found an ebay TCI says '86-93 TCI with P/N 41R-11 and type TID14-34. can I use this to replace my 41R-10 type TID14-28 for my 1984 XVZ12??
Prairiehammer Posted July 28, 2015 #7 Posted July 28, 2015 ok I found an ebay TCI says '86-93 TCI with P/N 41R-11 and type TID14-34. can I use this to replace my 41R-10 type TID14-28 for my 1984 XVZ12?? Yes, ANY 41R-** will work on your 1984. The eBay seller is incorrect when he/she says the 41R-11 will fit "1986-1993". It will work on 1984-1989, but not 1990-1993 (or 1983).
garyS-NJ Posted July 28, 2015 Author #9 Posted July 28, 2015 what about a 4XY-00 or -01 for the 1300??
Prairiehammer Posted July 28, 2015 #10 Posted July 28, 2015 what about a 4XY-00 or -01 for the 1300?? No. All First Gen Venture TCIs will be either 26H-**(1983), 41R-**(1984-1989) or 3JJ-**(1990-1993). The 4XY-** (Second Gen Venture?) will not work on any First Gen Venture.
Prairiehammer Posted July 28, 2015 #12 Posted July 28, 2015 Ok.. will the 3JJ work? Only on a 1990-1993. See above, my comment.
garyS-NJ Posted July 28, 2015 Author #13 Posted July 28, 2015 thanks again Kevin.. I read somewhere about using a 26H on a 1984// is this possible?
Snaggletooth Posted July 28, 2015 #14 Posted July 28, 2015 Yep, the 26H will work, but not properly. It takes a small change on the vac porting to make it better. I used a 26H on my '84 for a year or so without any changes for about 6 months. Just a lack of the old power but it got me around until I repaired my damaged 41R then onto Dingys Ingitech upgrade.

Vonwolf Posted July 30, 2015 #16 Posted July 30, 2015 I don't think that chip is on the HSA-19, at leat every picture I have doesn't have it like the HSA-18's do, I found a pretty good site on Vision TCI repair - http://www.jetav8r.com/Vision/IgnitionFAQ.html#a12p0. It says's they're pretty much universal and has a lot of good info.
