rickardracing Posted July 27, 2015 #1 Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) Well our trip to Sacramento to see our daughter her husband and our grandson went pretty much without a hitch. Left late on Saturday the 11th around 4pm after my wife got out of work and ran I-94 to I-80 up into Iowa. Got to Des Moine later that night and stopped for the night. Back at it the next day and continued to run I-80 to US-29 us to Sioux Fall then west on I-90. Stopped in Murdo South Dakota for the night. Kind of wished I had taken my 40 cal. Motel was not as nice as it was described on their website. I did however pack a folding pig sticker. Was not impressed with that place, no issues, but not a real nice place. Up on Monday and headed to the Badlands. WOW, never been there before, BEAUTIFUL but also kind of creepy the way the formations are just there, out in the middle of nowhere. Spent a lot of time there. Hiked a bit. Then went to Wall. Honestly, all the billboards for this place, all the hype. Just a bunch of gift shops. Really not my bag. We were there less than 2 hours. While on the road, (we drove) I really had wished we would have rode the bike, but with knee issues, I deemed it better to drive. So after kicking myself in the but for not riding the RSV once we got into Rapid City (late afternoon) I hit the Harley Dealer Yup, Harley. Blackhills Harley. Rented a 2015 Harley Davidson Tri Glide. First time ever on a Harley, first time ever riding a trike. I gotta tell ya..........I hated to give it back Teusday afternoon. Picked it up at 8am and e headed to Mt. Rushmore. Took a bit of getting used to, but by the time we got there, we both loved it. ALOT. We did the walkway up to the monument. Very impressive. Got so close I could see the boogers in George Washington's nose. Then off through Custer National Park, Needle Hwy and 16a. WOOOOOOOOOOOW. The scenery is unbelievable. we had a blast riding those twisties on the Harley. I honestly fell in love with the bike. Took it back aroung 4pm that afternoon and headed down 79 to 385 back to I-80. Had to get to Cali by Wednesday night so no time for any other sight seeing. Stopped in Laramie Wyoming for the night. Up early Wednesday and hit the bricks. 16 hour marathon drive and made Sacramento by 10pm. Spent the next 4 day with the kids. Went to Old Sacramento, San Francisco, Alcatraz Island, fishermans peirs. Had a really good time. All in all, did not see everything this time out, but we will be making many trips out there in the next few years, so we will get around to seeing everything we want. Now......back to work. rickardracing Posted July 27, 2015 Author #2 Posted July 27, 2015 (edited) Well, I cannot attach any pics, keeps failing, so you all will have to use your imaginations! Edited July 27, 2015 by rickardracing
cowpuc Posted July 27, 2015 #3 Posted July 27, 2015 First, WELCOME HOME BROTHER!!! CONGRATS ON WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A WONDERFUL TIME!! Second, thanks for the report on the HD, gotta ask how it did heat wise on you and your wifes legs,, seems like I have heard a lot of complaining about that.. Third, never did know that George had boogers, THAT is very important info that I will treasure for ever. We are planning on leaving for Sturgis shortly, will bring extra kleen-x just for George.. Forth, if you are into Native American and Cowboy lore you really need to give Wall Drug another shot. If you park at the end of the main road in town (where all the tourist trap joints are), go into the "Back Yard" and just inside the building on east edge of the complex is the most amazing collection of Cowboy and Indian pictures.. And Fifth Well, I cannot attach any pics, keeps failing, so you all will have to use your imaginations! Let me know how that works for you:big-grin-emoticon: Personally I dont think it will because of forum rules but hey,, you never know - it might work,,
