vicco27 Posted July 23, 2015 #1 Posted July 23, 2015 I need a couple of screws for the clutch and front brake master cylinders. I dropped one and can't find it. Need a replacement and could use a spare. Thanks! Keep the shiny side up.
PGunn Posted July 23, 2015 #2 Posted July 23, 2015 Those I believe are 5 mm screws as a temp fix try Home Depot they carry metric screws. Once you have the right one look on EBay for stainless ones to replace the Home Depot ones which will rust in time. You can coat the steel ones with light grease to hold off the rust over the short term
KeithR Posted July 23, 2015 #4 Posted July 23, 2015 Clear nail polish is a good thing to keep away rust as well on the small screws.
Rdfroese Posted July 24, 2015 #6 Posted July 24, 2015 I changed my screws to hex head screws as they were badly scarred by past efforts to use a Phillips on a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screw. I got a set of JIS screwdrivers now for all the other screws.
BlueSky Posted July 24, 2015 #7 Posted July 24, 2015 partszilla has some screws in stock if you can't get them locally.
Flyinfool Posted July 24, 2015 #8 Posted July 24, 2015 Yup, change them out to Hex socket head Stainless screws. Future life will be better. Most hardware stores will have them.
cowpuc Posted July 24, 2015 #9 Posted July 24, 2015 Ya know,, I always wondered why people gotta tighten those little suckers down so tight.. Yamaha spent all that time to make such cool little rubber gaskets and to do such a great job in designing the cover so the rubber gasket fits so nicely.. There really is no reason for those little screws to be put in with an impact driver .. I have ran all my Ventures with those screws loose enough that I can bump em out one handed and never had a leak problem... Same with the oil fill cap, seems like Magilla Gorilla was hired to put the oil fill cap on all my 1st Gens just before I get em.. Things got the most beautiful seal on it,, finger tight for thousands of miles and never an issue..
vicco27 Posted July 24, 2015 Author #10 Posted July 24, 2015 Sending a big THANK YOU! to everyone out there who responded. Your replies were a big help.

BlueSky Posted July 25, 2015 #12 Posted July 25, 2015 Steel screws in aluminum tend to be very hard to remove. That is why I bought an impact driver very shortly after buying my first bike, a new 71 Honda CB350. An impact driver can get those screws loose without ruining them.
