cwoody08 Posted July 19, 2015 #1 Posted July 19, 2015 2003 Royal Star Deluxe 28k miles. Last summer out of nowhere I had no clutch. I bled the system and was good for 1000 miles or so. I was low on fluid this summer so I added fluid. About a week later I went out to drive and my reservoir was empty. I didn't notice fluid on the ground. I bled the system and had great clutch pressure. I drove the bike about 5 miles to Walmart. I came back out and had brake fluid on my clutch handle and the reservoir was half empty. I am not sure what all I should do. I think I need to get a new slave cylinder after reading a lot of threads on here. Is there something I should check at the clutch lever also? I can not find a tutorial on how to change the slave cylinder. Thanks for any and all help
cwoody08 Posted July 20, 2015 Author #3 Posted July 20, 2015 Is that a new kit with new master and slave cylinders? I was reading that rebuilding the slave cylinder is a waste and u should just buy new. Also, is there a tutorial on how to change these out?
Condor Posted July 20, 2015 #4 Posted July 20, 2015 The master and slave kits are separate items. And yes it's best to replace the slave.
cwoody08 Posted July 20, 2015 Author #5 Posted July 20, 2015 When you say kits you are meaning new items and not rebuilt right? WHere do you recommend ordering from? Do they come with installation instructions? I have not been able to find a tutorial on here.
Condor Posted July 20, 2015 #6 Posted July 20, 2015 They are new rebuild kits... nothing more. They are sold through local Yamaha dealers or on the web, and yes they generally come with instructions. If you don't feel comfortable rebuilding you can always take it to a dealer and have them do it... but that's gonna cost you a bunch. Here's a few threads you can read to get a few ideas. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=1157803 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=1157812

cwoody08 Posted August 11, 2015 Author #8 Posted August 11, 2015 For some reason neither of those threads opened for me They are new rebuild kits... nothing more. brummers Posted August 11, 2015 #9 Posted August 11, 2015 I just did this job over the weekend, this should be the kit you need: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/yamaha/YP-3GM-W0099-00-00.html Here is the diagram: http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/2003/ROYAL+STAR+VENTURE+-+XVZ1300TFR/FRONT+MASTER+CYLINDER+2/parts.html The only tricky part is getting the C-clip out. It is recessed about 1/4 inch. I had a flimsy pair of snap ring pliers from harbor freight, but managed to get it eventually. I would do the master cylinder rebuild first, and see if that fixes the problem. The clutch release (slave cylinder) requires draining the oil, removing the crankcase cover and shift cover. You'll need new gaskets for those covers as well. My ultimate problem was that the boot for the push rod on the master cylinder had disintegrated and was allowing dirt into the reservoir.
