I have a 97 royal star, I wanting to make it louder, reason I was ridding home today and this guy ran into me, switching lanes well almost hit me, I kicked his car and blow the horn, we pulled over and etc etc, he said he didn't see me or hear me. So on that note what slip on pipes should I use, or can I just cut out the baffles, with out having to rejett the carbs?

Vance and Hines may fit your requirements, HD also. Or you can drill out the baffles in the stock mufflers. All this info is here on site. Lots of choices depending upon the amount of "loud" you want and how much damage to your hearing you are willing to accept.

I would also suggest an air horn...or suitable replacement for the stock horn. I've put Wolo and Stebels on my Ventures. Loud. People don't miss me when I honk.

Horns are actually kind of directional in most applications. Most of the sound projects out of the opening.

MC "horns" are more like buzzers than horns. Meaning; it just a buzzing diaphragm without a chamber to develop the sound. They're trying to make it less directional, but it just ends up being weak everywhere.

Electric car horns ar e directional, truck air horns are even more directional.

If you want loud horns, go get a high/low set for a car. Point them forwards and then get two more and point them left and right.

Look for something labeled in the 110 db range. Those tend to be labeled as "European" horns (although they may have a funny sound to NA ears). Most NA car horns are in the 95-110 db range and don't have quite the "shock factor"

Garan-gawd-damned-teed when you hit 4 of those mothers, everyone around you is going to hear you...maybe even mess themselves.

Another option that may be available at you local junkyard is a set of Cadillac 4 tone horns. They literally are 4 horns and man, are they bloody loud!

That is why I have 2 WOLO Bad Boyz horns on my bike for now. Each horn is 2 trumpets so I have a total of 4 trumpets.

http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?72811-She-tried-to-get-me

I am still working on how to mount a TRAIN horn, and 200 PSI compressor, and air tank on the bike, at 180 DbA it will be heard.

Most horns made for bikes or cars are rated for Db at 4 inches. The "loud" ones are in the 120 db range, most are around 110.

Me personally I never want any other vehicle within 4 inches of me. Sound pressure is cut in half every time you double the distance. 3 db is what it takes to double the sound.

SO;

110 db at 4 inches

107 db at 8 inches

104 db at 16 inches

101 db at 32 inches

98 db at 64 inches

95 db at 128 inches or 10.5 feet

92 db at 21 feet or 7 yards

89 db at 14 yards.

14 yards is not all that far away and I can yell louder than 89 db.

Now a train horn is rated to be a minimum of 120 DbA at 100 yards. I used to work for Prime Manufacturing, Train horns was one of our products. Still not sure how that big horn ended up on my truck.........:whistling:

Well been searching for horns, no salvage yard has them or even knows what I'm talking about, I found some online but didn't like those, so now shopping for slip ons, hmmm I wonder, I don't want to have to rejett the carbs, nor do I know how to do that any thoughts on slip ons that will work on a 97 royal star 1300?

I believe my Wolo air horn was $35.00 at O Reilley Auto Parts. It was a couple bucks cheaper the Harbor Freight. You can order a stainless mounting bracket from member carbonOne. He also has a plug n play wire harness with the needed relay. Both high quality and makes the install very easy and fast.

Okay here is another for y'all what about a windshield bag, like the one that fits on the inside of the windshield? ???

Search e bay for "motorcycle air horn" I bought a couple wolo ot srebel knock off types srill many many db and they were lkke 20 bucks a piece. Just remember if you mount up one ofthese it needs to be on a relay. Also there are some "beep" type horns that are pretty good. Listed under "sickspeed" .

Okay now where can I mount that, the box is going to just blow, like speakers and some serious amplifier, now let's be logical, horns mounted in air tight box, 2 gallon air tank, and the dude that tries to push me out of my lane, hhhhmmmmm there has to be a way, there just has to be!!

The screen over the open end of the trumpets does not show real well in the pics. It is not a sealed box.

The box will plug into my receiver hitch on the bike, the lights will plug into the trailer connector and there will be another connector for the horns the top of the box is a platform where I can mount a small cooler. I will have a receiver mounted to the tongue of my trailer so that when I am towing the horn will still be with me. It will also double as the cooler rack for the trailer.

But like I said, not that I have given this any thought at all yet.........
