Double D Posted April 2, 2008 #1 Posted April 2, 2008 While looking through some old pictures when I was stationed oversea and while on a trip to Italy, I found this picture of REAL curvey road.
Venturous Randy Posted April 2, 2008 #4 Posted April 2, 2008 "curves to brag about" by Double D. I was not sure what was going to come up when I opened it, but I could not resist looking. RandyA
Pecker Posted April 2, 2008 #5 Posted April 2, 2008 Man, the title had me a little worked up, guess the Mod Squad wouldn't allow what I was thinking:whistling::2143: The road sure does look like a lot of fun, almost as much as what I had in mind!!
Yammer Dan Posted April 2, 2008 #6 Posted April 2, 2008 Bet it gets a lot of looks!!! And it would be a great ride.
eagleeye Posted April 2, 2008 #7 Posted April 2, 2008 I have the summer view of that one. Always wondered where exactly it was. Steve
Guest JGorom Posted April 2, 2008 #8 Posted April 2, 2008 Yes...that sure looks like a road built for a sporting motorcycle! Beautiful picture...looking at that road makes you wish you could ride it!
Double D Posted April 2, 2008 Author #10 Posted April 2, 2008 I have the summer view of that one. Always wondered where exactly it was. Steve Steve, it is amazing that our pictures are almost the same. I took this picture when I was traveling from Italy to Swizterland in 1975. This road was closed for traffic but it would be fun to try it once.
Squeeze Posted April 2, 2008 #11 Posted April 2, 2008 This is the Stilfser Joch/Passo di Stelvio in Italy. Could be that i'm going there this Year. :whistling: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stelvio_Pass http://maps.google.de/maps?f=q&hl=de&geocode=&q=Passo+di+Stelvio&sll=51.124213,10.546875&sspn=14.971322,45.087891&ie=UTF8&ll=46.55225,10.475636&spn=0.063983,0.176125&t=h&z=13
eagleeye Posted April 2, 2008 #12 Posted April 2, 2008 Hey Squeeze, Thanks for the site and maps. Very cool indeed. How could you not go there. Man, I can only imagine riding in the alps. Hope you go. Steve
Squeeze Posted April 2, 2008 #13 Posted April 2, 2008 Well, my Problem is ... Work keeps constantly coming in my Way. Riding Time means also high Season in my Business. But i will be in Swiss on the End of April. Plans are set for Saturday of riding local Swiss Passes and Back Roads. Some 200 km/125 mls for this Day ... Estimated Time is 6.5 Hours of plain Riding without Fuel or Coffee Stops. Sort of a longer Riding the Dragon. :D
V7Goose Posted April 2, 2008 #14 Posted April 2, 2008 I rode that pass in 1976 two-up on my BMW R90/6 while I was living in Germany - it was truly amazing. Several hairpin turns INSIDE one-lane tunnels. At one point we had to get off and lay the bike against the tunnel wall to allow a truck to inch by us! The streams of water running out of the tunnel ceilings in places also made the ride interesting. Goose
