djh3 Posted July 9, 2015 #3 Posted July 9, 2015 And to think, they just about ran him out of town when he was a kid. Guess they dont mind him so much if $$$ is involved. He was a piece of work. I meet him in his late years.
Semi-retired Posted July 9, 2015 #4 Posted July 9, 2015 By "piece of work"......you're referring to the fact that he was a consummate bullsh*t artist? Wasn't he also a petty thief in his younger years? As I recall, none of the two or three documentaries I've seen do HIM any favours..........nor has he done many for motorcyclists or motorcycling. My 2c.
WildBill1 Posted July 9, 2015 #5 Posted July 9, 2015 He was a rider and a jumper that's enough for me.
Goose68 Posted July 10, 2015 #6 Posted July 10, 2015 All I know was when I was a kid I had his action figure and toy motorcycle that inspired me to ride motorcycles. I still don't know how I didn't destroy my 1st bike a Honda cb360 or kill myself jumping anything I could lol.
The Tooch Posted July 10, 2015 #7 Posted July 10, 2015 Every kid I knew had a bike with a banana-seat and high handlebars (Ape-hangers) and we would get concrete blocks and plywood sheets and long boards and build us crazy high ramps and proceeds to either wreck ourselves or our bikes and maybe perhaps both! All cause of Evil......I think a good number of the scars on my knees can be attributed to my attempts at making my two wheels fly over and beyond ditches, a variety of assorted obstacles and maybe even a buddy or three. Once jumped my bike off the school gym down onto the 1st floor roof of the school. That was a a crash of epic per portion...My Dad had to use a cutting torch to heat up the frame so we could bend it to straighten it out. I was picking little pieces of roofing stones out of my hide for a week. Only thing my Dad asked me was, "How the hell did you get your bike up on the roof of the school gym?" I climbed up on the roof and threw a rope down my buddy tied it to my bike. My Buddy then climbed up and we pulled the bike up, dragging it along the wall of the gym on the way up. It was easy! For awhile my nickname was Coyote.......cause I would dream up these crazy things to do and crash and mostly still live. I use to watch all the ABC Wild World of Sports specials they did on Evil, I thought he was cool! Nuts but cool!
djh3 Posted July 10, 2015 #8 Posted July 10, 2015 When he jumped "real" motorcyles I would watch on wide world. The whole rockt cycle thing I thought was bogus. But to think he and the other guys jumping at the time did all that stuff with no engineers or computers etc. Just a guess and by golly. He was definatly a BS artist.
Steve Hamm Posted July 10, 2015 Author #9 Posted July 10, 2015 So ??? I guess some of us have heard of Evil Kneivil . but is there any one out there that knows of bike shops in the area ????
Semi-retired Posted July 13, 2015 #10 Posted July 13, 2015 Good shot, Steve! He is definitely memorable!!
