Mikealiasmike Posted July 8, 2015 #1 Posted July 8, 2015 I need to buy a new pet cock for my 2005 RSTD. OEM is 100.00 More than I want to spend. I found one on Ebay for a Venture used. Will it fit my RSTD? It would seem to me they are the same beast but when I do a cross reference on Ebay, it says it won't. Anybody got one laying around they would like to sell? Need to get this done before Sturgis in 3 weeks. Thanks. Mike
Mikealiasmike Posted July 8, 2015 Author #2 Posted July 8, 2015 Also, if anybody knows of an aftermarket one that'll fit, please clue me in. Thanks again
RandyR Posted July 8, 2015 #3 Posted July 8, 2015 They are the same. check the parts numbers. You can replace parts instead of the entire assembly. There was an ECO to the early (pre-2003) petcocks. http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/2008-yamaha-royal-star-tour-deluxe-deep-purplish-blue-metallic-l-black-metallic-x-xvz13ctx/o/m154156#sch540465
Mikealiasmike Posted July 8, 2015 Author #4 Posted July 8, 2015 One of the brass tubes came out of the housing. Is there a way to fix that? Bike Bandit said the parts numbers were different from the Venture and RSTD. Thanks for the response.
Freebird Posted July 8, 2015 #5 Posted July 8, 2015 If it's the tube where the fuel line slips on, that is not all that uncommon. I had one come off years ago. Just tapped it back in with a hammer and it never came out again.
Mikealiasmike Posted July 8, 2015 Author #6 Posted July 8, 2015 Was hoping someone would chime in with something like that! I just wasn't sure if it would hold. Thanks Don. Going to give that a try and see if it works. Mike
djh3 Posted July 8, 2015 #7 Posted July 8, 2015 I had one pop off when pulling the fuel line. I just ovaled the end going into the petcock a very small amount to cause interference. Add a drop of red lock tight and no more problems.
KSRIDER10 Posted July 11, 2015 #8 Posted July 11, 2015 Yeah, that must have happened to the PO of my bike. I was just leaving my neighborhood with my wife on board when she (the bike) started stuttering so I reached down and switched to reserve, 10 feet later we were no-go. Seems that the taller tube had come out and the PO just removed it, effectively removing the reserve feature. My wife was less than enthusiastic about hiking back to the house to drive back a 5 gallon can of "hurricane gas".
djh3 Posted July 12, 2015 #9 Posted July 12, 2015 Well at least if you know there is no reserve you can watch for the odometer to hit your say 160 miles and just stop.
Mikealiasmike Posted July 14, 2015 Author #10 Posted July 14, 2015 I've never gotten 160 out of a tank of gas. EVER. When I'm at 140 it's sucking fumes. :c)
