CaptainJoe Posted July 8, 2015 #51 Posted July 8, 2015 Looks like they recommend oxygen... I know they quit wrapping busted ribs last time I broke mine. Said wrapping them contributed to pheumonia. The oxygen makes sense...
XV1100SE Posted July 8, 2015 #52 Posted July 8, 2015 Shows how they treat Vets. :-( Even Canadian medical care is faster than that !!!
Yammer Dan Posted July 8, 2015 Author #53 Posted July 8, 2015 I finally got a appointment from VA for next Wed. Not sure what they are going to do.
cowpuc Posted July 8, 2015 #54 Posted July 8, 2015 Goggle the Flail Chest thing Joe. How can this heal without being stabilized somehow?? Fractures can heal but from what I was told these are pretty good breaks and moving every time I move. I can wait if thats what it takes but VA just don't want to give up their plan. Still suposed to see specialist about it. Been waiting couple weeks for that appointment. And this big sore knot I have just under the ribs. I would like to know what it is but no info but We'll check on that. PRAYERS UP AND BLESSINGS DOWN STILL ROLLING OUT BROTHER!! I am so sorry for how you are being treated brother - what are the chances of you maybe seeking outside the VA help? Doesnt your bike insurance have coverage that would allow you to go to a regular hospital.. Regretfully, I am no vet and have no experience with dealing with everything you are dealing with but it sounds to me like your condition is severe enough that maybe getting your primary care Doc to send you to a bone Doc specialist all paid for by your bike insurance would not be out of the question.. I do know that insurance companies at this point seem to hold all the cards and make most of the decisions as to what can and can not be done - sounds crazy but I keep running into that with all this stuff I am dealing with.. Got to jump thru a LOT of hoops to finally get the tests that the doctors know I needed in the first place - pretty frustrating but what do ya do...
Yammer Dan Posted July 11, 2015 Author #55 Posted July 11, 2015 Well they called and canceled my appointment today. And didn't give me another.
DragonRider Posted July 11, 2015 #56 Posted July 11, 2015 Dan, we are still praying for your recovery, with you being in so much pain, I suspect you wont be making Vogel this year, but you will be missed, just rest up and follow the warden's and the Dr.'s orders, your health is far more important than anything else at this point. Good luck with the VA, I know how they are, my best friend in La. is always complaining about them, and really dont give him much help.
rougeray Posted July 11, 2015 #57 Posted July 11, 2015 Dan, If the VA can't give you an appointment within 30 days you can call 866-606-8198 and they are suppose to set you up with a local doctor. If they have been jerking you around since your accident I'd give this a try. I had a colonoscopy done locally as it was gonna be a hassle for me to travel to New Orleans to have it done. When you had your accident were you transported to the hospital by EMS? Did you advise the hospital/ER that you are a veteran? It's my understanding that if that is done they must treat you till arrangements are made to get you to a VA hospital. I'm sure they treated you in the ER then cut you loose but the VA may pay for the ER. Just a thought. We have been waiting for a VA hospital since KATRINA destroyed the one in New Orleans. That has been 10 yrs and it's not suppose to open till 2016!
syscrusher Posted July 11, 2015 #58 Posted July 11, 2015 Goggle the Flail Chest thing Joe. I found this page that shows some treatments for that. This is what you want right here: http://www.trauma.org/archive/imagebank/chest/images/chest0013.html
Flyinfool Posted July 11, 2015 #60 Posted July 11, 2015 Here in WI got bad with the VA to the point that if you call your Senator they will light some fires under buts. The VA listens better to the persons holding their purse strings.
Yammer Dan Posted July 12, 2015 Author #61 Posted July 12, 2015 Knots and pains moving around this morning??
cowpuc Posted July 12, 2015 #62 Posted July 12, 2015 Knots and pains moving around this morning?? No idea if thats a good thing or not brother BUT, the first thing that popped into my mind when I read that was that hopefully its cause all those knots and pains are tired of fighting with the body of a lop eared ornery ol cuss like yourself and they are trying to find their out of their relationship with you!! Still Prayers Up and Blessings Down my friend!
Yammer Dan Posted July 12, 2015 Author #63 Posted July 12, 2015 Monster in my gut is getting worse and I have some strange lumps in there. I think its time to ditch VA.
Barrycuda Posted July 12, 2015 #64 Posted July 12, 2015 Dan my WV brother... oh boy do I feel for you. I'm real sorry you're all banged up and I haven't been on here much. Glad to see you're in better spirits. Fractured rib takes 4-6 weeks to heal, broken ribs, and a dozen of them take a bit longer. Clavicle also is a son of a b*tch. That said, heel up ASAP. Then bring you and your banjo to Florida for some R&R. Try to see about some, any physical therapy as soon as your able to get mobility and motion back. It's essential. Until then, keep being fed grapes by pretty nurses.... We all love ya here.
Yammer Dan Posted July 14, 2015 Author #65 Posted July 14, 2015 I have had a great day!! Its about time. Docs don't seem to want to see me and if it goes like today I don't need them!!
JDaniel Posted July 14, 2015 #66 Posted July 14, 2015 Glad you are feeling better. Don't over do it though.
Yammer Dan Posted July 15, 2015 Author #67 Posted July 15, 2015 Had a couple good days in a row. JDaniel I've learned my lesson on that I THINK!! Soreness is doing good but sneezed today. WOW!! Got to watch which way I move and do it slowly but after all I'm a 2nd Gen Rider.........I think.
Yammer Dan Posted July 15, 2015 Author #68 Posted July 15, 2015 Called this morning to find out what was going on. They called me and canceled appointment for today. They they rescheduled it again for TODAY but didn't tell me. I didn't find out til a hr ago and its 100 miles away!!! No wonder people are complaining about them!! Think I'll start looking for regular doctor.
Yammer Dan Posted July 23, 2015 Author #69 Posted July 23, 2015 I got brave with grandkids yesterday. Getting out of bed rough this morning.
videoarizona Posted July 23, 2015 #70 Posted July 23, 2015 Something isn't right with VA. They should have strapped you tighter than a drum by now to limit movement. Is there a VA office you can go to and file a complaint? Or, since they can't seem to get to you at all, maybe request a civilian doc paid for by VA? I'm not in VA since I didn't get in while the getting in was good...but do know that different offices around the country handle situations like this better than others. Lots of friends in VA and some have great experiences, others, not so good. Patient Advocate/Representative to talk to? I know they exist to help solve problems... Wishing you better luck down the road! david
cowpuc Posted July 23, 2015 #71 Posted July 23, 2015 Still got them Prayers going Up and those Blessings should be coming down brother!!! Sounds like the prayers is working cause your able to get out of bed:thumbsup:!! Also, sounds like the Blessings are coming down cause ya got yourself a passle a Grand Kids to play with!!!
Yammer Dan Posted July 24, 2015 Author #72 Posted July 24, 2015 You are right David. I think its time to see Why I've been treated like this. There may bo no treatment for them but they could at least tell me.
DragonRider Posted July 24, 2015 #73 Posted July 24, 2015 Dan, so sorry that it is taking you so long to recover, I know you have had your share of Dr's and nurses, some good, some not so good. Hope you find you one that will take control and get you back to normal. Still in our prayers, take it easy bud. I have been complaining about my back, but then I read your posts and I shouldnt be complaining, I have it pretty good compared to you.
campfire12 Posted July 24, 2015 #74 Posted July 24, 2015 Dan. Glad to hear your feeling better. Take it easy Bud and you should be back in the saddle soon. Sorry that secound gen threw you. You must have been kicking her hard trying to get her to run like a first gen. Get well my friend!
