Baker Air Wings on 2nd. Gen Venture

I am considering the purchase of a set of the Baker Air Wings for my 2006 RSV. I was very pleased with the Baker Wing's performance on my last bike (1999 Valkyrie Interstate). What kind of experience have others had on their Venture? One area of concern I have is the method in which the wings are attached to the bike. I appears that they are only attached at the lower engine crash bars. Does this provide enough support? Thx.

I personally don't have them, but there are several people on this site that do. From all I have read they are sturdy and provide good protection and air flow. Yamaha also makes a similar product. I have seen these on bikes and they look good.

Salty, those look good and a bit cheaper than the Bakers. Where do they attach to the bike? Thx.

They install onto the crash bars like the Bakers. A bit pricey, though.

In looking at the Baker wings, it appears that you can install highway pegs, in addition to the wings, on the vertical side of the crash bars. Would the Yamaha wings get in the way of highway peg installation?

For my opinion Tried Bakers at Americade one year they did divert wind and rain BUT THEY GOT IN THE WAY WHEN I SHIFTED GEARS HIT TOE OF BOOTS ON THE MOUNTING BRACKET. Returned them to Baker the next day.

SleeperHawk and Beer30 have them they would be able to answer that question better. I am not sure but I think they attach to the top of the crash bar and are designed to fit into the natural shape of the side of the shroud. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't interfere with the highway pegs.

 

BTW I'm pretty sure you can find these around $150.00 if you look around.

Don't they have the Yamaha version? I think they both work well but from what I've seen, the Yamaha version looks much better. UNLESS Baker has changed their design. I haven't looked at their's lately.

I just installed the Yamaha wings and a new set of Kuryakyn highway pegs. The pegs do not interfere with the wings. Best price on the wings was from sports plaza yamaha in wash state. I paid under 150.00 for them.

I took the Bakers off and put Yamahas on. I liked the upper wing on the Baker but the Yamaha has a better lower deflector and mounting. One of these days I'm going to try to fabricate the best of both into one unit... but that is way down on my list and my stuff is way down on my wife's list!

One of the things I am noticing on my (new to me) RSV is the amount of air (and probably rain) that hits the knee area and upper shin. It sounds like people generally prefer the fit and general function of the yamaha wings, but maybe the bakers do a better job of deflecting wind and rain due to the "upper wings"? Is this a fair assessment? Thx.

When I had the Baker Air Wing on my bike it did not stop the wind or rain from hitting my knees :confused24:

Micko, I have a set of the Yamaha air wing. I bought them not to keep air out but to move the air in to me in the summer. One thing about these venturers is they are a vary hot ride when the temp. gets over 75%. But that is the only thing I have found that I do not like about them. I just bought a set of the pegs I am going to install this weekend.

p.s. the wing do help in the winter with the air.

Adding any wind diverting product on a RSV changes the aerodynamics and potential handling of the motorcycle and should not be done.

 

If Yamaha wanted you to have air wings, Yamaha would of put them on at the factory.

Ahhh yes but Yamaha makes these wings to get more money outta us.

I have the Bakers...I like the air in the summer. No, they do not divert the rain off the knees but I always wear leathers. In the cold weather they really will knock the wind off you, thanks to the uppers. I use the clamps for pegs as well. They don't get in my way shifting. FWIW

I think they look pretty good. Have only had the bike for a month and they were already there so I have not had a chance to try them in the heat of summer yet but I think they will work well!

Here you go. Like I said I didn't install them. Looks like if you have highway pegs they would just fit between the peg and the mount. There is a tab welded to the 1/2" square Air Wing support rod. If you don't have pegs you would have to come up with a clamp I guess. Hope this helps, Gary

I put the Baker Wings on my RSV 08 for two months and took them off. They get in the way and could not notice much of a differance. Also the top right shield broke off 2 days after install. Took them off 2 weeks ago. Waste of money for me.
