10spd Posted June 29, 2015 #1 Posted June 29, 2015 ok. So I got a new TCI from dingy & my bike runs like the bike I thought I was buying. I guess my question is under normal riding, could this increase my gas mileage. I guess since it runs better I probably will be twisting on the throttle more.

10spd Posted July 3, 2015 Author #7 Posted July 3, 2015 Well after the first tank of gas I did noticed that before I could get about 120 miles before the gas pump light would come on. This tank I have 130 miles on it with 1 bar still showing on the dash guage. Love it

videoarizona Posted July 3, 2015 #9 Posted July 3, 2015 Greg...now that the scoot is running better...it would be a good time to go back over the plugs, wires and carbs to make sure she is running sweetly. You should be able to get over 160 miles to the tank with normal riding before reserve. "Normal" means keeping the wrist in check...most of the time...grins! At least that has always been my goal...40mpg's. Good to hear you are on the way!

Assuming you have been doing your wrist excersizes regularly,, I may suggest checking your throttle cables for slackness - two loose and your slides wont go to full open when ya nail it.. This too can result in your MPG's being mopedish (to high) and will also cause the 2nd Gens to disappear in your review much slower.. Sounds like that Dingy TCI is treating you SUPER 10spd!!! :dancefool::dancefool:

Once I'm on the last bar (or flickering back and forth between 1-2) I'm looking to fill. Not having a res position on the petcock has me super warry of running out. Im not a "trust the fuel gauge" kind of guy and its not like pushing an RD400 to the next gas station. This thing is HEAVY! Where the V stops, is where the V sits..... When i do fill aroind the 1 bar level, it usually takes around 15-17 bucks to dribble out the vent line at $1.15-1.19/ liter.I'm usually around 160-180 kms on the trip at that point. I've never seen north of 180 on the trip. Maybe my V is just a gas hog, comparatively. Or if could be my riding I guess. My FJ seems to burn through fuel super quick too. Most guys say they are in then40-50 MPG range. I've never bothered to calculate it, but there's now way in heck its getting much over 30-35. It drains that huge FJ tank in about 180-200 kms. On the FJ's defence, it does have 140,000 kms on it and I know I have to at least change the needles and emulsion tubes when I rebuild them this winter. Can't help but wonder if the VMax bits I'm going to throwing at the V this winter will make it better, worse or just the same.... Edited August 20, 2015 by Great White
Flyinfool Posted August 20, 2015 #18 Posted August 20, 2015 The V-max parts will make mileage worse if your right wrist ever discovers their presence. Scrapping various parts of the bike in the curves causes a lot of drag and will eat up gas too.

The bike had 145000 Kms on it when I sold it. My 2nd gen is getting OVER 300 Kms per tank and it has 186000 Kms on it..

Never more than 5-10 mins at a time. 260 just seems impossible on this bike, given the history. I'm hitting a solid 1 bar on the guage at about 160 kms. I've just learned to live with it. The V mostly sits these days anyways. The FJ has become my around town bike. The V does long distance duty (ie: anything over an hour or so).
stanG Posted August 20, 2015 #21 Posted August 20, 2015 Just completed a 1600 mile ride to the UP of Michigan and averaged 49 mpg. The only mod is Skydoc's carb needle spacer kit. Did a carb sync about three years ago. I'm afraid to do another one since it's running so good. One tank on the trip I had 55 mpg. I had 193 miles and the light had not come on. Normal day to day I am about 43mpg.

Hmm..even Momma Yamaha says you should get more if I remember the ads correctly. Diaphrams, plugs, wires, carbs...then wrap your right wrist with ten pounds of tape and go ride... grins... Something to think about this winter... david

Love it I ride my bike pretty hard, and most of the miles are at 80mph or so on the interstate and my light doesn't come on til around 160 miles. Sometimes higher, sometimes lower. If I stay off of the interstate and out of 5th gear, I can get over 170 before the light comes on.
