So, I am 99.9999999999% sure my fuel pump has left the building. So, who has had to replace the stock fuel pump on their second gen

and did you go with a stock part from Yammy or did you go aftermarket. For the aftermarket, which one did you use and have you had any issues with it? I read the write up on the Mr.Gasket pump, not sure what I am going to do at this point. I am going to go out this afternoon and pull the old one out. Maybe put a .40 cal round into it to see if that makes me feel better!

I went stock and kept the old one as a spare once I repace the points on it. OEM has a check valve so gas does not drain through the system and into the cylinders causing hydro lock.

Mine died and I bought one of the cheap chinese pumps on ebay but it seemed to be starving for fuel sometimes so I bought a used OEM pump with low miles (under $90 on ebay) and it works great.

I used Mr Gasket on my last bike for 30,000+ miles with no problems. Would probably try replacing the points first, now if I had one quit

I did the write up, so I got the Mr Gasket. I still have my oem and on another board we are having the check valve discussion also. If I can remember tomorrow Im going to check and see if I can determine weather or not there actuall is a ck valve or not.

I took the pump apart. I have no idea where or how you guys are getting or replacing the points. Calling the stealer today to get a price on an OEM. Going to go from there.

Dennis Kirk has a OEM style also.

See this thread - there is also a video showing the points. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?104162-Fuel-Pump-Points&highlight=fuel+pump

And here is video on how to replace the points: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gYH7EVbM8Y

Bert, thanx I will check this out. Joe, thank you too. I may buy a new one and either buy the kit to replace the points and throw the repaired pump in the saddle bag as a "just in case" while on the road.

Randy. How many miles on the old pump

John, I have 48,000 miles on the pump. Stealer in Brighton wants a whopping $333. Dennis Kirk has the direct Mitsubishi manufactured pumps for $198. I will probably order one from there and pick up one from Caltric also as a spare for less than $50 and put that in the saddle bag for "just in case".

The OEM pump is expensive and it will fail also. On my third time around I went with the one made for airplanes, only about 40 bucks and unlike the Mr Gasket it has the positive shutoff and only needed a few 1/8th inch fittings to turn the in/out lines in the needed directions.

Here's a link to several options and sources for aftermarket pumps. The aircraft style you asked about is listed here and it, unlike the Mr Gasket, has the check valve. I used the Mr a Gasket because it was in stock at a local auto parts store and the other wasn't. Plus I always turn off my fuel when turn off the bike so hydro lock wasn't a concern

I ordered the direct OEM replacement from Dennis Kirk. And I ordered one from Caltric off of ebay for a whopping $23. That one listed on their website for between 40-55 bucks. Got the ebay special. When that comes in, I am going to make sure it works and then stick it in the saddle bag as an onroad back up. I will install the OEM as a full time replacement. I do not like the idea of replumbing something. I do not feel that added work is necessary, there are other options available. The original lasted 48,000 miles. The OEM is manufactured by the same company that built them for Yammie. Keep a cheap spare or even a the original that is rebuilt in the bags and if the replacement goes out, it is literally a 15 minute fix. No messing around with fittings and homemade brackets. Take the stock bracket off, put it on the new pump, hook up the lines, mount to the original holes, plug it in and go. Thank you to all that replied. Condor, I maybe ordering the points rebuild kit. Thank you also.

Well yesterday I went to look for my old pump to see if it actually has a check valve or not. As luck for me goes right now its playing hide and go seek.

This really should be in 2nd gen tec, I copies from on old post.

It cost about 50 for the pump and around 20 for the several brass fittings I used to make it work in the same location and with the original hoses. All it takes is a slight bend in each of the mounting brackets and it bolts up to one of the two original holes with an original bolt. I purchased two 1/8" npt to 5/16" hose connectors, a hose to hose union, a 1/8" street 90, a 1/8" close nipple, a 1/8" npt 90 and a short piece of 5/16 hose and two hose clamps. This changes the in/out from each side of the new pump to copy the in/out to be on the same side like the original pump. Only two wires to splice into with what ever connection you choose. Very easy and I'm hopeing this one last longer than the last two OEM pumps. It has the positive shut off so no need to turn off petcock each time you stop. It is the Facet 40171 http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalo...lickkey=250753
