philtrex Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Looking for any tips or tricks to adjust my stock backrest. I already modified the pad mounting bracket to be able to lower the pad by cutting the plastic on top the same as the bottom. The pad now goes lower which helps some. When I put the bar in the front hole it is to close for me. When I put the bar in the middle hole it is ok but could be better. What I need to do is leave the bar mounted in the second hole but have it pushed foward some. Also I can't figure how to remove the plastic covers. Working out some ideas to move the bar forward, while at the same time making it not move, forwards or backwards as my second seater would like it to not move also. But would like it to fold forward to get into passenger seat. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Phil
philtrex Posted June 27, 2015 Author Posted June 27, 2015 (edited) 9Here is what I came up with and is working well! You need 1/4inch threaded rod, two feet is plenty. In HD electrical department get 1/2 inch EMT one hole strap, package of 1/4inch threaded rod connectors and tie wraps. Also the original JB Weld.. See picture. Not a Utopia back rest but total cost was under $10 Put black friction tape on chrome on the passenger handle. Also sand the connectors before applying the JB weld. You have to close the one whole strap using channel locks to make it snug on the backrest bar. Any suggestions to make this better are welcome. Edited June 27, 2015 by philtrex
