LED Turn Signals

Hey Guys: Has anyone installed the right angle LED's offered by Superbright? Both 1156 & 1157 in Amber with the stock lenses? If so do they work well and how fast is the blink rate? I have seen some rockets with leds and they are blinking like a strobe. Don't mind if they speed up a bit, but think they loose their effectiveness when they are blinking that fast. Is it like double time when a bulb burns out or slower than that?

I've look at those but was afraid the blink rate would be too fast to work. I'll be interested in any responses as well.

I believe you're correct, the signals would cause it to blink too quickly. However, you should be able to get a flasher relay made especially for LEDs that would slow the rate down. My only concern is, would they be bright enough.

The led lights I've put on my bike/trike conversion were blinking too fast as well. I contacted Custom Dynamic's - http://www.customdynamics.com about their load equalizers ( http://www.customdynamics.com/loadequalizer.htm ) and they suggested for me to use their 4 amp model #4807. I have ordered yesterday but haven't gotten it yet.

I'll report back once it's installed.

BTW: if I put the 4-way flashers on the lights blinked at a normal rate thus this tells me I needed more load for the flasher to operate properly.

One other thing was some folks switch out the flasher itself. You'll lose self cancelling turn signals thou. Didn't want that as I like the self cancelling feature.

 

Also Custom Dynamic has a led cluster for the Yamaha turn lights ( http://www.customdynamics.com/yamaha_turn_signal_retro.htm ). I like those too but they're sure proud of them as well. I'll pass for now.

One thing about using load equalizers, is that they do get warm. They are designed for intermittent use and if you turn on your 4way flashers, they can get pretty hot after a few minutes....so be sure to mount them where heat wont be a problem.
