So the McGuires kit does work but holy cow is it a lot of work. If you ever try it forget using the drill it is a pain in the U know what. The biggest problem is sanding thoroughly enough to remove the protective film that was on it. I had to go back over it a second time after trying to polish it and noticed the blemishes from the protectant. The deep scratches are gone now but there are still some small swirls from using the drill. I will go over it again this week by hand to remove the remaining scratches then polish it again. If you have lots of time on your hands and like projects it is doable. Next time I will pay the $200 and buy a new one.

Update: After buying a sheet of 2000 and 3000 grit wet sandpaper the windshield is looking good. No more spider web effect in the sun.

Mine's been in for a year or more, Hubert........but, I would guess it's an "hours of actual use" thing, so on THAT basis, my longevity may not count for much.

Does Sylvania not provide a life expectancy in hours of operation? I can't imagine the application (in the Venture, as opposed to any OTHER vehicle) puts undue strain on the lamp......so 6 -7 months would almost be "grounds" for a freebee replacement, wouldn't it?

The issue is that they need to push the filaments harder in these bulbs and they flame out early. They are warranteed for 12 months I beleive, but they are such a pain to replace that I gave up on them. I switched to a Cree LED that should now last substantially longer and provides improved lighting from the oem's

sounds good. Do you have stores, price, and a part number? A link would be great.

Thanks

I bought mine here 2 years ago now and they have new models now, so I cannot speak for those but mine was a 2600lm output and their current one is over 4000lm.

Some have had bad experiences with them, but for me it was positive.

I know that there are now units sold at cyclegear

Hope this helps:confused24:

Thanks for your input........and I don't mean to sound helpless...:-)......but the CycleGear site only shows a 2400 lumen unit.

Are the brighter ones elsewhere?

Just did a quick search on eBay for led headlamp bulb and got all kind of results. Most from china thatwould be leary of but some from US. I cannot vouch for any of them as I have not bought those. Perhaps other members could chime in?

If you look closely on most all the HID and LED bulbs they are made in China. Just some fellows import a bunch of them at one time and have them ready for delivery.

If you have a hazy looking shield with fine scratches that are unbearable in the sunshine... Gonna sound crazy but.. get some creamy peanut butter... Use it like rubbing compound- rub it on and massage it with a little elbow grease- don't let it sit to long.. no need for it to dry.. the cream will help remove the fine scratches and the peanut oils will moisturize and bring the natural oil back out.
