clav_guy Posted June 12, 2015 #1 Posted June 12, 2015 Sooooo.... My 2006 RSV has been running fine. NO issues starting. I pulled in to the gas station last night. Shut it off in neutral and filled the gas tank. I then turned the key on, pulled in the clutch and pushed the starter button. It sounded like the starter might have made half a turn and everything came to halt almost like the battery was yanked out. There are no lights, no radio nothing in terms of electrical power. I figure if the starter had jammed or seized, I would still have some indication that there is still power. But, NOTHING... The battery is just over a year old. Any ideas? Thank you in advance
Great White Posted June 12, 2015 #2 Posted June 12, 2015 If it were a first gen I'd say you blew the main fuse. Not sure if a 2006 has one, but it should....
MiCarl Posted June 12, 2015 #4 Posted June 12, 2015 Dirty or loose battery connections That's the most likely culprit. Check the battery too. I know someone who had a battery completely fail when he tried to re-start at a gas station.
eagleeye Posted June 12, 2015 #5 Posted June 12, 2015 Dead battery, even though it is only a year old, take it to a auto shop and have it tested under load.
Flyinfool Posted June 12, 2015 #6 Posted June 12, 2015 I'm guessing bad new battery. I just replaced a 1 year new AGM last week. But it could also be a bad stator and/or RR. Get out your battery charger and voltmeter and start testing.
V7Goose Posted June 14, 2015 #7 Posted June 14, 2015 Your statement that everything is now completely dead sounds more like the main fuse, but bad connections or failed battery are also lesser possibilities, as is a failed ignition switch. Goose

murraylw Posted June 29, 2015 #9 Posted June 29, 2015 Sounds similar to my original issue, bad ignition switch.
yamagrl Posted June 29, 2015 #10 Posted June 29, 2015 1999-2009 wiring diagram shows a 30 amp Main fuse in the bottom right corner. It looks like it may be connected to or in the starter solenoid http://www.venturerider.org/wiring/99-09%20Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Venture%20Wiring%20Diagram%20Rev%20B.pdf Here is a close up from the bottom left 1999-2009 Simplified its in the top right. http://www.venturerider.org/wiring/99-09%20Yamaha%20Royal%20Star%20Venture%20Simplified%20Circuit%20Diagram%20Rev%20B.pdf Here is a close up from the simplified.
djh3 Posted June 30, 2015 #11 Posted June 30, 2015 Main fuse is on left side under the passenger floorboard. I cam off a trip one year everything was fine. Next day I went out and nothing. 30 amp fuse was bad. Check all the connections also as it wont hurt.
clav_guy Posted August 3, 2015 Author #12 Posted August 3, 2015 Sorry for not getting back to you all... It turns out it was nasty dirty battery terminals... All fixed now. Thank you all for the help and info
camos Posted August 3, 2015 #13 Posted August 3, 2015 Sorry for not getting back to you all... It turns out it was nasty dirty battery terminals... All fixed now. Thank you all for the help and infoI have had that happen with both the Virago and the Venture without the terminal being particularly nasty looking. It's probably a good thing to occasionally clean the terminals whether they look like they need it or not. Might also help the charging system keep the battery topped up.
