cimmer Posted June 12, 2015 #1 Posted June 12, 2015 Was looking for a 4 brush starter and found this on ebay and was wondering if anyone has purchased one of these starters from Rare Electrical. Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-STARTER-MOTOR-YAMAHA-1983-1985-XVZ1200-VENTURE-ROYAL-1987-88-XVZ1300-VENTURE-/400503518577?hash=item5d3fdeb571&vxp=mtr Thanks for any input. Rick F.
videoarizona Posted June 12, 2015 #2 Posted June 12, 2015 That one, if it is a direct replacement, is a two brush starter...??? I looked up the yamaha model number it says it replaces...2 brushes. You don't want that. Get any 2nd generation starter...even used...it will be 4 brush.... david
MiCarl Posted June 12, 2015 #3 Posted June 12, 2015 I bought mine from Rare Electrical. The listing has long ended, but the part numbers in this listing are identical: http://www.ebay.com/itm/STARTER-90-91-92-93-94-YAMAHA-VM1200-V-MAX-MOTORCYCLE-/121122071420?hash=item1c3370237c&vxp=mtr Shortly after I purchased it I thought I'd made a mistake and got a 2 brush. I peeked inside when it arrived and it is a 4 brush. Been starting my bike great for a couple years now, turns the engine over hot just as well as it does cold. No issues on the transaction. As I recall, shipping was reasonably fast.
cimmer Posted June 13, 2015 Author #4 Posted June 13, 2015 Thanks guys.. I wondered about the part number also but wasnt sure if they just pulled that as I believe that if you were to buy a replacement from Yamaha now you would only get a 4 brush starter no matter what year you purchased it for. MiCarl Posted June 13, 2015 #5 Posted June 13, 2015 I believe that if you were to buy a replacement from Yamaha now you would only get a 4 brush starter no matter what year you purchased it for. I'm not sure about that. The site I usually check such things is down this morning. It wouldn't surprise me if Rare Electrical is selling the exact same starter in different ads for different fitment. The ad I linked lists the Mitsuba part numbers for both the 2 and 4 brush version. You might as well buy the less pricey one.
