Stratcat Posted March 31, 2008 #1 Posted March 31, 2008 Anyone have any experience or knowledge of these??? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Saddle-Bag-Trim-Rails_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10064QQihZ008QQitemZ180227959348QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Orrin Posted March 31, 2008 #2 Posted March 31, 2008 Curt, I have them on my 05 RSTD. When I went down last October they don't help a thing. They sure do look good though. I like 'em. That seams like a good price. They are easy to put on.

That seams like a good price. They are easy to put on. Thanks Orrin that sums up just what I was thinking, looks good, looks easy, but do they really protect the bags? So you answered all my questions thanks!
cecdoo Posted March 31, 2008 #4 Posted March 31, 2008 I have been watching those also, dont think they are OEM,was wondering how the quality was compared to OEM, so if you decide to go for them, let me know what ya think. Thanks Craig
Guest tx2sturgis Posted March 31, 2008 #5 Posted March 31, 2008 They are cosmetic trim, not functional roll bars. They have never been correctly called 'crash rails'. They do help if you happen to bump into the bags with something like a broom or a cooler, but thats about it for protection. Thats just not what they are designed for. They are designed to look good....and they do.
Mariner Fan Posted March 31, 2008 #6 Posted March 31, 2008 I've been thinking of getting a set too. Curt, did you read about the fact that they do not line up correctly? Not a hard fix but you do have to drill a new hole. Bob
Stratcat Posted March 31, 2008 Author #7 Posted March 31, 2008 I've been thinking of getting a set too. Curt, did you read about the fact that they do not line up correctly? Not a hard fix but you do have to drill a new hole. Bob Yeah I have read that, but I think that reference is to the stock OEM crash bars though isn't it? I don't think it's these Ebay items, as they appear to just clamp on.
yamahamer Posted March 31, 2008 #8 Posted March 31, 2008 Yeah I have read that, but I think that reference is to the stock OEM crash bars though isn't it? I don't think it's these Ebay items, as they appear to just clamp on. NO THOSE MOUNT JUST LIKE OEM AND THEY DO HELP THE LOOKS OF THE VENTURE AND TOUR DELUXE.
Mariner Fan Posted March 31, 2008 #9 Posted March 31, 2008 Since these are not OEM I wonder if they line up right without having to re-drill?
Stratcat Posted March 31, 2008 Author #10 Posted March 31, 2008 Since these are not OEM I wonder if they line up right without having to re-drill? Orrin above said he had them on his RSTD, let's see what he says?
Freebird Posted March 31, 2008 #11 Posted March 31, 2008 They sure look the same as OEM. If they aren't, I would sure like to know who is making them and what else they may be manufacturing. Since buying my RSV in '99, I've NEVER seen an aftermarket supplier of these.
KeithR Posted March 31, 2008 #12 Posted March 31, 2008 There is a long chat about them on Delphi Forums ...... Royal Star Venture and Tour Deluxe Forum # 6771 Not sure if this link will work http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/main.asp?webtag=vrider&msg=6771&find=Search Keith
cecdoo Posted March 31, 2008 #13 Posted March 31, 2008 They sure look the same as OEM. If they aren't, I would sure like to know who is making them and what else they may be manufacturing. Since buying my RSV in '99, I've NEVER seen an aftermarket supplier of these. Since they are lower in cost, and the article never mentions they are "genuine Star" access. Just seems to state they will match OEM I took for granted they are a knock off, or they are blems? I really dont know that they are, just seems funny they are so much cheaper??

MAINEAC Posted April 1, 2008 #15 Posted April 1, 2008 I e-mailed the seller asking if they were Yamaha rails and if not who made them...Still waiting to hear back.
Midrsv Posted April 1, 2008 #16 Posted April 1, 2008 I really don't see them being much cheaper after shipping. $40 shipping brings them to $189 and www.motogrid.com has the rails for $182 with a more reasonable shipping charge. DT

Orrin Posted April 1, 2008 #18 Posted April 1, 2008 I didn't check prices, but they do look like OEM. I like 'em on mine. The fix is to drill another hole to lower the mounting and then they line up better and look better. I have not done this mine but have been thinking about it. But, then, I think about a lot of things I don't get around to doing, and then I do things I don't think about.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted April 1, 2008 #19 Posted April 1, 2008 ....But, then, I think about a lot of things I don't get around to doing, and then I do things I don't think about. What worries me is that I understood that perfectly.
