GolfVenture Posted June 5, 2015 #1 Posted June 5, 2015 As I was nearly complete mounting my new Clearview shield, I heard a crack and yep, it cracked at the upper mount near the left mirror. Is there anything that I should do at this point?
uncledj Posted June 5, 2015 #2 Posted June 5, 2015 I'm sure others will differ, but I don't see it as much of a problem. Since the crack goes from the edge to the nearby hole, the stress should be relieved by the hole. I'd like to know why it cracked in the first place. I know that when I put my F4 on I had to elongate the holes slightly with a Dremel tool. As long as there's no additional stresses on the mounted windshield, I wouldn't worry about it.
GolfVenture Posted June 5, 2015 Author #3 Posted June 5, 2015 Here is a picture of the screw and washer. The washer has a sleve and the sleve is just a tiny tiny tad longer than the thickness of the shield. I could have tighten the screw even more before engaging the sleve part of the washer. I did have to use a bit longer screw than the oem screw for the clearview shield was the widest one and so the shield buldged out at the screw hole so I had to use a longer screw to get a hold of the nut's threads. But I figured that is what the sleve of the washer is for. To stop the screw from putting too much pressure on the shield. Oh well, your answer is comforting for I figured that many shields crack there just due to mileage and viberations. I would have preferred it crack several thousands miles late, rather than at installation. You know how it is when one gets something brand new. Going to install it again.
djh3 Posted June 6, 2015 #4 Posted June 6, 2015 I have to agree. I think your good to go with it the way it cracked.
