kevin-vic-b.c. Posted June 2, 2015 #1 Posted June 2, 2015 I have been off for 10 days. Went cross country to watch our eldest Son receive his Masters Degree in Science. Brad is a Theoretical Physicist already working on his PhD. Fly out fly back all good. Woke up today feeling fuzzy but not warm about going back to work. Our son that lives with us was up having breakfast with us before he headed to his job as well. He went down stairs to get ready to leave, called up and said..... hey guys there is a problem here.... wet basement! Turned out the showers that Lori and I had had before breakfast all ended up in the down stairs bathroom. After calling 6 plumbing service companies I found one that would come out to clear it for us and scope the drain. Yup the piping is shot! Drain is running for now BUT..... we will have to dig up from the back side corner of our house to the city connection. The concrete side walk and driveway are going to need to be removed $$$$ :mo money: $$$$$ is all we can see right now.
cowpuc Posted June 2, 2015 #2 Posted June 2, 2015 Sorry to hear this Kev!! Hopefully it didnt cause other damages and that you folks are able to get things under control.. Tell ya one thing, I would ten times be spending the cash on bikes than on that wet basement routine (always felt like I was throwing money down the drain when dealing with that kind of stuff).. Best wishes on your repair!! Puc
SilvrT Posted June 2, 2015 #3 Posted June 2, 2015 OMG, if it isn't one thing with these Venture riders, it's another ... something to do with the month of MAY it seems! Sorry to hear you're "all wet" Kev .... insurance on this?? Now please don't tell us this will cancel your trip to Yreka ...
gmarshall Posted June 2, 2015 #4 Posted June 2, 2015 Call another plumber! Sometimes house laterals get clogged with roots, grease, or paper. Plumber will punch a small hole in clog to get it running but trouble comes back. extremely rare to have pipe "shot". Have another plumber tv the line and be there when he does it. i have saved many homeowners thousands of $ from shady plumbers over the years. 40 years in sewer / wastewater business.

Not much got wet but the basement it self I have been drying that out and the stuff that did get wet spent the day in the sunshine. Unless you have big damage bills insurance is just a pain, between deductibles and possible rate increase for using it. The only time we ever used our home insurance was when one of the kids hit a pickup truck while on his skateboard and caused a few grand in damages. Yreka is maybe shaky right now. Nothing a tradesman hates more than having to call a tradesman into his home.... especially from the same trade but I did not have access to the equipment to do the work.
mabeline Posted June 3, 2015 #6 Posted June 3, 2015 Kevin. If your pipes are shot, there are companies that dig a small hole at your city connection and bore in a new pipe right through your old one. No need to dig up your yard or wreck your sidewalk and driveway.

Well I sure hope you two get through this with minimal expense and inconvenience. BTW congrats to your son!
