mrjeff Posted May 31, 2015 #1 Posted May 31, 2015 Did a quick trip to Atlanta and back this weekend ( 755 miles round trip). Ran a few tankfuls at 80 -85mph by the gps( 85-90 by speedometer)got 36mpg. Also last tank reserve light and odometer came on at about 150 miles and had to switch to reserve immediately. This was one of the tanks I ran hard. Ran another 31 miles at 65-70mph and when I fueled up, I put in 5 gals. Does this sound about right?
Sylvester Posted May 31, 2015 #2 Posted May 31, 2015 Right by me. The speedo is never right unless you have the speedo healer. You should (?) get 40 +/- mpg. Light usually comes on at 160 for me but I have gone 225 miles with the light on.

aharbi Posted June 1, 2015 #4 Posted June 1, 2015 Sounds correct to me as well. Lowest I've got was 28mpg running 80mph into a headwind, beat me to death.
videoarizona Posted June 1, 2015 #5 Posted June 1, 2015 This Spring's headwinds about beat me to death as well. 30 to 40 mph gusts! 80mph indicated got me 36mpg. I figured it was the wind more than the speed. Heck...at one point going straight into the wind...I could hear and feel the carb throats howling. Had very little throttle left. That's when I realized 5th gear is not good for headwinds like that. Shifted to 4th, slowed to 70 and motor quieted down a bit. david
