Battery Dead - ISimple is the cause

With the recent rains and a new work schedule I have been riding the bike less. If I let it set for 6 days, the battery is flat and she will not crank. Audio Fuse powers radio memory, odometer memory, and ISimple unit when key is off. Key Off Draw was 220ma. Unplug ISimple unit and KOD went to 16ma. Dealer ordered another cable from DIN connector to ISimple unit. This is Version II of this cable. It has something in the middle of it. If battery voltage drops below 12.6 it is supposed to cut power to ISimple memory. (So the story goes). The original factory cable is on top. The V2 of the cable is on bottom. If your battery is flat after about six days with ISimple connected but will stay charged with ISimple disconnected, might want your dealer to look into Key Off Draw and explore getting a new ISimple power cable.

Getting back to the dead battery... I've found that if you don't turn the audio off it will drain the battery if stored for a long period of time.... For overnighters it doesn't make that much difference....

Update:

Recent rains have let the bike sit in the garage for 6 days. Before I attempted a start I measured the battery. It showed 12.72 volts. Almost a perfect charge. Put the key in and she started right up. I believe V2 of the Isimple cable has solved the flat battery problem.

Did they give the part under warranty? if so do you know the service bulletin or recall on it please

 

Part was replaced under warranty. There was no svc bul or recall on it. Yamaha knows about it though, that's why v2 of the cable exists.

Question: I have a 2013 RSV and after sitting for a week while I installed the passing lamps, the battery was/is dead as a door knob. You typed "if you don't turn the audio off". What do you mean? Since I'm new to this bike (3 weeks), is the audio on even when the key is removed? Is there something that the CB/Radio draws even if the key is off? Is there some 'procedure' that one must follow to avoid an excess draw?

Yes, there is a slight draw from the radio even with the key off, but not enough to kill a battery in a week. It becomes an issue when you store the bike for an extended period of time like storing for the winter. I've let my bike set for several weeks and it starts right up.

 

I would suggest pulling your battery, charge it up, and have it load tested. Most car parts stores will load test for free...

 

EDIT: I see you have a 2013 which will have the ISimple setup, and there was an issue with those, check with your dealer about that. Still have your battery checked out to rule out a weak battery.
