dave_wells Posted May 29, 2015 #1 Posted May 29, 2015 My 02 Venture Last weekend while getting ready to head home from a visit to Captjoe in WV When I went to start the bike just a loud click and nothing a boost fixed that drove it home battery seemed OK I put it on the tender on Monday Started it Yesterday Today getting ready to head to Dons MD I went to start it and a loud click an nothing. I know it not the battery due to the lights staying on the entire time trying to start it It sounds like the starter not engaging or turning slow. after pressing the starter button several time it started like normal shut it off and it started again Any thoughts The upside I still have my 06 RSTD so I just swapped the hitch and wired the gps aired up the tires and it ready to go Did not get there tonight like planned We should be there by 10:30 am Friday
djh3 Posted May 29, 2015 #2 Posted May 29, 2015 Check your battery connections. Give them a good cleaning. To include down on the block and the solenoid. Corrosion will allow the lights etc to work, but not supply enough draw for starters. you mentioned when you jumped it it started. So the cables got a good connection from the booster.
Seaking Posted May 30, 2015 #3 Posted May 30, 2015 Well THAT sounds familiar... Does it feel like the bike cranks up against a compression cycle and can't go past that point? But might start once you turn off the bike and retry?
rougeray Posted May 30, 2015 #4 Posted May 30, 2015 Check the starter relay. They have a tendency to corrode I think due to their location. I have replaced mine twice. Last time I used dielectric grease on connections. Haven't had a problem since.
