Based on advice from others, we did it east to west. Would do the same again. One reason is that we were more comfortable riding on the mountain side, rather than right on the edge. Regardless, it is an amazing experience.

I was planning on the same direction for the same reasons.

Yep, both ways for me too. Changing and going the other direction is a definite must if you have a couple hours to spare. I would recommend east to west for a morning ride so the sun is behind you. Then take a break, give the mountains a chance to do their weather thingy and head back east (now going west to east) after 4 pm so the sun is still on your back..

If I had to choose just one it would be west to east,, I like living on edge!! Besides, it seems like the wildlife is a little more abundant in the evening..

By the way, dont forget to check and make sure its open - for some reason that area doesnt seem care if its 90 degrees in other parts of Montana - its almost like that snow up there is sun/heat resistant or something!!

I've ridden it both ways. I prefer riding west to east. I think most of the views were better from along that edge when you looked down into the valleys and canyons. Also, it seemed like most of the pullouts were on that side of the road. Going east to west I think we had to cross the other lane often to pull off for a photo op. You can't go wrong either way.

Here is a link to photos going west to east:

After looking at your great photos, it seems to me that as long as I'm out there, both ways is the way to go.

Thanks for posting them.

Yes Eck, Valerie and I have been very fortunate to be able to see so much of the country. We have plans to go back to SD, WY and CO this year.

We did it both ways last summer you will be there and it doesn't take that long, totally different views from different directions (I know, Captain Obvious). Very nice area.

I have done it both ways several times but I do like east to west much better. The reason I like east to west is that when I got back into riding motorcycles about 15 years ago, that was our (wife and I) 1st crossing of a mountain pass on a motorcycle. A day neither one of us will never forget. Awesome!!

Nancy doesn't like heights so think we'd take the East to West. Mind you' date=' she was okay crossing the Mackinaw bridge.[/quote']

So was Anne going over the Mac bridge but she had her eyes closed a number of times on our Road to the Sun ride.

I wish Konnie would ride, but she just don't like it. I want to take her to all kinds of places but she always wants to take the Avalanche, and I hate riding in a cage..(except when it is raining)..:stickpoke:

Ran past EagleEye on the road today. Whiskers flying with a big smile behind.

He is heading East taking the ferry from Manitowoc to Ludington. On way to MD?

Ride safely.

Shhhhhh,, not so loud, Mr. EagleEye is sound asleep in the bedroom next to mine getting his beauty sleep.. His tummy is full of baked beens and smoked chicken sandwiches that Tippy made just for him (actually I ate 3x more than he did - ate like a bird he did (guess thats par as he is a eagle after all). He told me he saw you Red and said he could not wait to get back on here and see if it was you..

I think I wore him out with laughter and stories cause he just made it past 12am headed to the sand man.. No idea how he is gonna handle the real MD at Dons when he runs into the professional :witch_brew:'s down there:confused24: when an :2132: like me wore him out so early.. This could really be interesting :big-grin-emoticon:

By the way, WOW ZZZ WOW WOW WOW what pretty scoot he has!!! I LOVE his custom white walls!!

I got time,, wonder if he would notice it if Tweeks had his bikes tires on her in the a.m.
