VanRiver Posted May 23, 2015 #1 Posted May 23, 2015 Hi Guys and Gals, I need your insight and opinions on Mufflers please. I currently have a set of Jardine's on my 1986 Venture Royale and I find them too loud for my liking. Finding original OEM mufflers are as rare as hens teeth in my neck of the woods and too expensive for shipping on E-bay, so my next logical option is to go with stock Harley Road King mufs. I see there are several members that have done the switch to HD RK's, but the real question is will they be quieter then my existing Jardine's or would I be wasting my money in the quest of making my bike as quiet as possible?
Great White Posted May 23, 2015 #2 Posted May 23, 2015 If you lived closer I've got a set of 86 muffs up in my parts loft. Problem is, can post from ns to ab would cost and arm, leg and a certain right orb we usually don't want to part with. They're also what I would call functional and still chrome, but definitely not show quality. Are you sure you can't find a set or reasonable pipes in AB? Lots of rust free metal out there in the prairies....sask more so then most. There was a decent bike wrecker in Regina when I was posted in MJ, but that was 20+ years ago....
Great White Posted May 23, 2015 #3 Posted May 23, 2015 (edited) Hers the closest I could find on you tube: Royal star not a venture. But that should be close I would think. Too loud for me, but your pref might find it acceptable.... Edited May 23, 2015 by Great White
VanRiver Posted May 23, 2015 Author #4 Posted May 23, 2015 Thanks Great White, I appreciate the offer but I completely agree about the shipping part. Lots of nice ones on Ebay too, but shipping to Canada is the deal killer. From the Youtube video you so kindly shared, the HD's do sound very loud, basically on par or even louder with what I already have with the Jardine's....guess I'll keep looking local to see if I can locate some OEM someday. All the good bike junk yards of my youth have disappeared here in Calgary. A real shame. If you lived closer I've got a set of 86 muffs up in my parts loft. Great White Posted May 23, 2015 #5 Posted May 23, 2015 Is JT's Motorcycles and parts still in Calgary? Maybe give 'em a ring?
Prairiehammer Posted May 23, 2015 #6 Posted May 23, 2015 Jim, get into contact with @Neil86 (Neil McRobbie). He has a 1986 Venture and has been a LONG time Venture nut. He may have a lead on some OEM mufflers. He is in Rocky Mountain House.
Patch Posted May 23, 2015 #7 Posted May 23, 2015 I don't weld stainless but know others that do if you still have the old ones. If you find some up in Rocky Mountain let me know I run up there often, I can relay for you. GW, finally closed, off of Black Foot, the old bike yard??

Not sure, I just remember driving past it on my way through Calgary way back when....
VanRiver Posted May 24, 2015 Author #9 Posted May 24, 2015 Is JT's Motorcycles and parts still in Calgary? Maybe give 'em a ring? Yup, JT's used to be my go-to place but unfortunately they shut down a few years back.....they sold a portion of their "stock" to the "Old Motorcycle shop" and the rest went to the metal scraper......but I haven't had the most positive experience dealing with those guys at "OMS" and basically all the mufflers are in one big pile with no way to distinguish what type of bike they belong to. I have checked "the pile" and was not able to find any that look like they could be from a Venture. I don't weld stainless but know others that do if you still have the old ones. If you find some up in Rocky Mountain let me know I run up there often, I can relay for you. GW, finally closed, off of Black Foot, the old bike yard?? I don't have the originals as they didn't come with the bike so repairing them is not a possibility. Thank you for the offer of "Relaying" parts from Rocky Mountain house! Much appreciated. If that comes to fruition I will send you a PM and I will make it worth your while! And yes TJ's used to be located on BlackFoot Trail here in Calgary, and years and years ago they were up in the NE part of the City.....but I guess profits in the old motorcycle parts game were not as high as they were once was...and they packed it in as a business. Thanks for all your help guys!
Patch Posted May 24, 2015 #10 Posted May 24, 2015 JT had an earned bad rep, you needed a suitcase of bad attitude to deal with him. I was in OMS picking through carbs, what a freaking mess! I do know lots of guys use the HD on a variety of old touring bikes. Like everything else compromises are called for. I saw on KIJIJI 2 Vs -one for 1200 ish and 800.00 might make for good parts bikes? Not sure if you ever run up to Bragg, if so call and we can hookup, I saw this up there during the week LOL Patch
