I've taken a few moments to re-read some posts, looking for some how to tips. Anyway when I start searching and reading I end up down the rabbit hole so to speak. LOL.

I've read some old long (5 pages or more) posts about various issues.

I am amazed that someone could post a question on the forum about a problem they are having, then as other member chime in with possible causes fixes or try this, the original poster takes it upon himself to argue with every suggestion. In Walt's world logic has a place. If you are having a problem with your lower knifety pin not providing 1.21 gigawatts on demand, you obviously don't know how to fix it! So why would you then spend the next several days or even weeks arguing with everyone who had the same problem and managed to get it fixed? Especially when 99% of the replies all point to the same solution!

Just asking is all?

Just cuz......:stickpoke:

When I try to help someone and they say I am wrong, I tend to just sit back and watch. I could be wrong, I was once, and I often learn something.

When I try to help someone with suggestions and they want to disregard everything I say, I just give up and quit trying. Usually this same person is doing like you say, disagreeing with everyone.

Post is a little vague, some context is needed. Link to example of said subjects?

But in general terms, advice on and open forum is usually opinion from general populace. Something may work as described, it may not.

It's kind of like the "if everyone jumped off the bridge would you" comments your mom would make.

There's also the what worked for the last few guys to fix a similar problem may not be what works for the next guy. That's why there is a troubleshooting process for every system. It's meant to systematically eliminate the logical items to ferret out the actual problem.

Without the troubleshooting process being conducted, a perceived "fix" may only be a band-aid solution vice the resolution to the real problem.

Then again, some people are just obstinant and want to hear the answer they want to hear. This can either be from their personal point of view or very often, because the right answer means money or skills they just don't have.

That answer is all a little vague, but so was the question so that's the best I can comment to it.

no context needed as we don't want to start a flame war here. I just reread some posts this week, getting ready for some maintenance. There were a few where the original poster basically asked for help/advice about an issue then proceeded over the next 5 pages of posts to tell everyone they were wrong with out trying any of the suggested fixes, because he knew better. Last post he still had the issue and was still asking for advice.

In my opinion I think this relates to almost everything in life and not just the posts found on this forum. Lots of knowledge and experienced people on here, they may not always be right but a point of view or opinion is not right or wrong. Again in my opinion it would be the loss of the person posing the questions if they do not want to have an open mind and at least consider the sincere replies of assistance they receive. I like to think that in the last winter months those who have assisted me in my build right or wrong are the reason my current ride is reliable and as good as it is. I kept an open mind and considered everything that was mentioned to me and even jumped in deep in the modification/upgrade aspect and as a result have a bike that I have recently found to handle and perform better than the same stock model and vintage. I am not in love with my bike but it is ever growing on me and I can fully understand why the venture has a strong cult like following.
