Just found out that one of the people who works here at Brooke Army Medical Center and I know real well was arrested with the Waco mess. Retired Army First Sgt and Medical Maintence. Taught math and wrestling at a local High School, until a couple of years ago. Belongs to the Boozefighters club, Bikers Against Child Abuse, and the American Legion Riders and a big ol teddy bear of a guy. No weapons found on him. His wife is hoping for his release this week. I am sure when they get through with this, they will find that there were many of the bikers were there just to enjoy a club meeting and ride their bikes. I am not trying to excuse the several criminals that were there also, by no means, but hope they investigate well before judging too harshly.

Heres to hoping your coworker is exonerated.

It was a "mess" alright.

I never have and never will understand motorcycle gangs and their territorial bull crap. It's all so high schoolish.

No, it is like the mafia, control of illegal drugs and prostitution of that turf.

This sounds pretty heartless, but with the story of all the weapons recovered, I bet there is going to be a huge police auction, or do they have to destroy them all. I saw a couple of pictures of the crime scene and worried less about the people than the bikes. They were putting them on gooseneck trailers and wreckers. For the Harleys thats typical anyway, but in the sea of Roadglides and Streetglides, there was a Goldwing trike. Probably belonged to someone with a tailbone that couldn't tolerate a Hog anymore

Sad indeed!! Prayers Up that thru the legal system your friend finds some justice for his false arrest and he is released very soon Sapper.. Man what madness!! :confused24:

I was already thinking that the police had over reached. Your story just adds to what I was already thinking. I don't go to big motorcycle events very often but I would hate to think that I went to one and violence broke out and I got arrested just for being there. Or maybe I was riding through and just happened to stop in for a meal and the scenery.

I've been keeping tabs on this one myself with the huge ROT rally coming up in Austin in a few weeks. To a certain extent, the cops way over reacted on their arrests. Basically, EVERYONE who was there got sent to jail, no matter who they were or which of several clubs they belonged to, are under 1 MILLION $$ bail each! Initial reports had 1000 weapons seized while the actual count is in the 300+ range [still an out of sight number!]. Absolutely no one is saying who shot who and how many were actually killed by police. Multiple jurisdictions to a fare thee well and the local Waco PD is supposedly claiming they don't need ANY help from anyone including the state police, FBI, and ATF! Talk about NUTS!

One of the actual gangs who was involved in the shootout was supposed to be sponsoring a rally elsewhere this weekend but it was cancelled [wonder by who?] but the cops are still covering the rally grounds just in case to see who still shows up.

ROT [Republic of Texas] Rally has sent out an email announcing that they are working with ALL local, county, and state pd's to provide security at the Travis Co. Fairgrounds where the main rally is held. Since ROT makes the Waco gathering looking downright tiny in comparison, it will be interesting to see just how many cops show up for the ROT madhouse. ROT also holds one humongous motorcycle parade on Fri. night and takes over most of downtown Austin for a huge streetdance/party so trouble could get real "interesting" real quick. I was thinking of going [got to buy goodies for the Beasties!] but will wait and see what happens from here on.

Its hard to say whether or not cops over reached IMHO, because in many cases law enforcement is handicapped by having to stay within the confines of the law (and of course they should) but unfortunately, whether it be outlaw bikers, street gangs or terrorists, they do not and only recognize the legal system when they want to use it to their advantage. It is sad that human beings who are supposed to be of a higher intelligence than animals often behave worse than animals. With regards to innocent's included in the arrests, sad as it may be, just how exactly are the cops supposed to determine the true outlaws from the none outlaws when so many bikers like to role play when out on their bikes. Being in the heat of the moment I cannot see were an officer has the luxury to single out the good from the bad, its not like you can just walk in and say " Ok will those of you who are innocent please step to the right and those of you who are guilty step to the left So we can arrest only those who should be arrested. I can remember while working as a bouncer in a bar in my 20's and getting into brawl were we outnumbered 3 to 1, were in the heat of the fight I had spun around and almost clocked one of my co-workers because things were happening so fast and your so overwhelmed that you become so desperate that your reactions become much faster than your thoughts. Its not like a video game were can you can hit the Pause button, something the general public and critics never seem to comprehend.

If you have a pocket knife clipped to your pocket then you have a weapon in the eyes of an LEO. There were more than two clubs there. I hope we get the real story one day but I don't count on it. The whole thing is a sad deal. And I would sure as heck stay away from the ROT rally. Prayers sent for those involved.

.

He lives in Kyle or San Marcos ( up that way) rides 45 miles a day one way to work, has a house near Fort Hood and is a member of the Boozefighters club, but according to his wife (whom I work with a lot more than him) he wasn't there with any club. I have been getting different stories from other people who work in the hospital and he isn't as squeeky clean as I thought. A knife was found and some large ball bearings on him and the bike. I have heard that the ball bearings are used to get cagers attention if they try to cut you off or come in your lane. He had them in his windshield bag (Bearings). I have to keep my faith in the LEO's ,that if he is not guilty it will all work out. I know that in the heat of the moment all @$$%$%% breaks loose, so I honestly think the situation will be handled fairly in the end
