cowpuc Posted May 20, 2015 #1 Posted May 20, 2015 Nano Nano, Mork calling Orson,,,, Mork calling Orson... Today on earth I learned some really interesting things about metal zippers on leather jackets Orson. I also learned how a little humility can go a long ways when needing help from an earthling.. I took my space suit leather jacket to a man with a big needle to have a zipper replaced that long ago had gotten ruined by meteor dust and me pulling on it.. The human at the shop asked me if I would rather have a new zipper or if I would be interested in learning about zipper care and possibly being able to keep my original zipper and save $35 dollars. You would be proud of me Orson, I told him I came to earth to learn, gain knowledge and I chose to do that.. He showed me how to carefully separate some sticky tiny teeth (looked like they needed a dentist from Ork), brush dust from earth places like Texas - Utah and Montana out of the teeths tiny pockets with a small brush. He then showed me how to use a small knife (some people here use these knife things to hurt each other instead of helping zippers) and realign the teeth. Then the kind man showed me how to use Chap Stick (he told me this is kind of a secret that he only tells people about that he can clearly see want to KNOW and UNDERSTAND about zippers) on the zipper and then to take a lighter (here on earth they use lighters to start fires instead of ray guns) and to heat the chap stick up on the zipper to lubricate it. My zipper now works as new, I have a new good friend who taught me lots about zippers and Mindy is happy because the kind human didnt charge me anything for the knowledge (they have a thing called Tipping here, I tipped him two Orkon field stones for his knowledge). While I was walking out of the door of the sewing shop I thought of a new saying that you may like Orson.. Here is what I made up: "NEVER KNOW SO MUCH THAT YOU ARE UNABLE TO LISTEN TO YOUR FELLOW MAN AND RECEIVE DEEPER KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING FROM HIM" Thank you for listening Orson - Mork out!!
Flyinfool Posted May 20, 2015 #2 Posted May 20, 2015 Orson: Have you been smoking your socks again, Mork?
pbjman Posted May 21, 2015 #4 Posted May 21, 2015 Good story, Puc. I wish my old leather jacket had a metal zipper.... one day got off my CL350 and threw the jacket over the seat. When I went to put the jacket on, one side of the zipper had a semi-circle shape melted into the teeth because it touched my pipes.
djh3 Posted May 21, 2015 #5 Posted May 21, 2015 interesting things about metal zippers on leather jackets Holy crap that must be and OLD jacket. They aint put metal zippers on jackets for like 15 or more years. LOL JK man I got my brothers old quilted lined motorcycle jacket I keep around. I guess just because it was his and I looked up to him. Some how the thing has shrunk over the last 10-12 years cause it dont fit anymore.
ragtop69gs Posted May 21, 2015 #6 Posted May 21, 2015 Great how to Puc, just tried it on my old metal zippered leather, all the zippers now operate better than new! THANK YOU!
cowpuc Posted May 21, 2015 Author #7 Posted May 21, 2015 Great how to Puc, just tried it on my old metal zippered leather, all the zippers now operate better than new! THANK YOU! YOU BETCHA RAGGIE!! Gonna use some of that 50+ sun screen chap stick like I carry out west on the rest of my zips,, keep em from getting sunburned too:big-grin-emoticon:
djh3 Posted May 21, 2015 #8 Posted May 21, 2015 Ya know as a matter of fact the zips on the chaps could use a little lubbing up.
stickhandle2 Posted May 21, 2015 #9 Posted May 21, 2015 Way to go Puc.......you always have a very entertaining way of sharing new tricks. Awesome......Mork and Mindy was a great show....well done. Mike
eagleeye Posted May 21, 2015 #10 Posted May 21, 2015 Leather jackets without metal zippers? The world is going to hell in a handbasket. A very timely tip indeed. My jacket is at a nice lady's getting some patches sewn on as we speak, and when i get her back I'll lube that zipper up good.
cowpuc Posted May 21, 2015 Author #11 Posted May 21, 2015 Glad you guys found that interesting.. Gotta tell ya, I am planning on making the "chap sticking of the zippers" part of my spring maintenance program! I just cannot get over how amazing it works. I have fought my leather jacket zip for a LONG time and to see how it works now !! I am gonna stop at the little sewing shop that the guy owns who told me about it and tell him THANK YOU again for the info.. I still shake my head when little secrets like that come into my life (even here in geezerdon) and am always shocked at how I can go thru all those years of leather jackets (snowmobile leathers, carharts and hunting clothing included) and have missed that my whole life. Same thing applies to our family here, I am always amazed at the idea's a lot of you folks have come up with and shared - makes this place a LOT of fun and VERY interesting!!!
djh3 Posted May 22, 2015 #12 Posted May 22, 2015 Ya know my mom use to have a block of bees wax in her sewing box. I know partly she used it for marking material. but come to think of it I bet she used it on some zippers too.
