videoarizona Posted May 19, 2015 #1 Posted May 19, 2015 What did Yamaha change on the motor to cause the rev limiter to be lowered with the 2nd gen?
Prairiehammer Posted May 19, 2015 #2 Posted May 19, 2015 What did Yamaha change on the motor to cause the rev limiter to be lowered with the 2nd gen? Five year warranty?
Flyinfool Posted May 19, 2015 #3 Posted May 19, 2015 1st gen did not have a rev limiter, it had a tach with a red line.
videoarizona Posted May 19, 2015 Author #4 Posted May 19, 2015 1st gen did not have a rev limiter, it had a tach with a red line. I stand corrected. So why the difference in red line management? Was it the 5 year warrantee? Or...was it a change in the motor? Curious... david
Flyinfool Posted May 19, 2015 #5 Posted May 19, 2015 There is no tach. A tach or other gages, did not go with the retro style they were after. They had to have something to prevent over revving.
djh3 Posted May 20, 2015 #6 Posted May 20, 2015 Hmm A red line on a tach never prevented me from over revving. When the valve springs float out, now thats different. The FJ 1100 and 1200 had kind of the same thing going on. The 100 rev limiter would hit like 10,000 the 1200 motor was 10,500 or 11K Atleast thats what we found with the legend cars that run that motor.
Flyinfool Posted May 20, 2015 #7 Posted May 20, 2015 The red line does not prevent over revving, but you can not honestly say you had no idea what RPM you were turning. Maybe the limiter came about from those that were ignoring the red line, coupled with a 5 year warranty?
dna9656 Posted May 20, 2015 #8 Posted May 20, 2015 Isn't THAT a literal rev limiter? A Non-Powered Edition? You know a "Mark One"? The "Common Sense" model?
