Here in the Finger lakes of Central New York one of our favorite roads Is Route 54A between Branchport and Hammondsport New York. It is a Mecca for riders in this area. The road itself is only about 24 miles long but it is a roller coaster of a road. The speed limit is only 35 mph but most people travel it at about 45 to 50 mph. the road is a wonderful series of lefts and rights ups and downs. It hugs the coast line dropping near to the water then rising 20 30 40 feet about the waters surface. The road terminates in the little hamlet of Hammondsport, the home town of Glenn Curtiss the second person to fly a heavier than air craft. There are several great restaurants and a wonderful mom and pop ice cream shop in the town square. The square is usually lined with bikes from riders all over the area. After riding in most ride back out of town in the opposite direction. Rt.54A is connected to others roads across to Canandaigua Lake(Little Italy valley) and north up Rt.21. These roads have wonderful panoramic views of the lakes some from hundreds of feet about the lakes themselves. This area is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Mountains. They are old and worn but they still hold great views and beauty. As a limo driver and a rider I have been over the best of these . Two years ago NYJerry lead a great tour through this area though Rt.54A was not included . But if you are in this area ,its a must ride.
