Okay gang here's a weird one. I'm storing my 86 in an old barn. I laid down plastic on the floor and then carpeting (over dirt and stone) . We had some heat for a few days then rain here. I keep a piece of wood under the bike to place the center stand on. In the last few days i have noticed a puddle under the bike. Its not gasoline, its not anti-freeze, its not fluid from the battery or oil.

Because the gas tank is under the seat I'm wondering if this is condensation coming off the tank. If its not that, what could it be and where is this liquid coming from ?

Check the clutch master. Could be leaking and running down the leg of the faring. If that is the case, then the faring could be toast.

In your first post, you ruled out everything except brake/clutch fluid and fluid from the rear shock. What part of the bike is directly over the puddle?

And why do you have plastic on the floor under the bike? One of the properties of plastic is it draws moisture. Not good maybe.

I was going to say taste it, but maybe a dog peed there.

all good observations . It is definitely not brake fluid. Its not oily at all. So i don't believe its either that or from the shock. the bike is on its center stand and the puddle is just in from of the stand so the gas tank is just above it. It has no smell at all and looks and feels like water.

Eagleeye: the barn had a gravel and dirt floor when we moved in. We didn't have the money to lay cement so we used an old pool cover and then layed down indoor out door carpeting over that. We did this to protect the bikes and my mustang from ground moisture coming up.

Checked the radiator reservoir. it was a little low but no radiator leaks. puddle was gone. no more liquid under the bike. I have to check the battery yet It may be the stator over charging the battery. last year I had to stop on a day trip to fill low cells. Interesting side not. If ever you need to do a battery tending while the battery is in the bike. stop at a store and pick up some distilled water and a squeeze ketchup/mustard bottle. The empty kind with the pointed top. it makes a perfect way to refill a batteries cells with out pulling the battery or making a mess.

If it were battery fluid, that is acid, so you need to flush and wash with baking soda. Check the area under the battery with a heavy runny mixture of baking first to see if the battery did leak, even though it is dry now it will still eat away at everything in it's path. If the baking soda bubbles, you have acid, keep washing until all bubbling stops.

I just had to order a new agm battery for my 89 venture, bought the ytx24hl-bs frome Chrome Battery, been using these in my Goldwings and with no problems. Did the resistor mod to the sensor years ago.
