cowpuc Posted May 9, 2015 #1 Posted May 9, 2015 Why, go down and help a friend work on his 120k mile Harley Twin Cam Road Kind of course.. This is an early model T.C. Carbed 88 inch. Has had the tensioners swapped out 3 times (including this time). The cam plate with the severely worn front tensioner is the cam plate out of the bike. We are swapping out the oil pump too as the internal race on the sump was in pretty rough shape from scavenging pieces of tensioner plastic - Harley T.C. Motor's have isolated tranny/primary fluids from the engine cases so they are not subject to clutch plate pieces and tranny debris (uncommon anyway) like our Yammies might be. But, those devilish little plastic tensioners can really wreak havok.. The reason we have Wendels Hog down is he noticed a sudden drop in Oil Pressure recently, found the o-ring that sandwiches between the oil pump and the cam plate had failed.. Also took some quick shots of the cam bearings for anyone interested such stuff (I know, most folks find all the gear head nonsense as boring as all get out but,, never know,, might be another wack job like me out there). 1st set of bearings in this bike had PLASTIC cages between the rollers, last job got INA bearings with metal cages, this job is getting full needle Torringtons with no cages.. Have a bored everyone enough? Enjoy the pics, hope your weather is better than ours and your not even reading this but are out riding,, maybe somewhere like Western Utah in the dry, warm desert!!! Oh, by the way, in case anyone is interested.. THAT is the original belt and pulley in the pics too - 120k!! Pretty interesting IMHO.. Puc
