videoarizona Posted May 5, 2015 #1 Posted May 5, 2015 Why do these two parts differ so much in price? They look the same to me.... #11 4XY-2317J-00-00 DAMPER 1 #12 4XY-2317K-00-00 DAMPER 2 david (I need one - just one...but who knows which one???Grins)
XV1100SE Posted May 5, 2015 #2 Posted May 5, 2015 Without looking closely at the actual piece....almost double the price for the left one. The part numbers are different for the two so there must be something "special" about the left one. If you need the left then order #11 . Obviously right one is #12 . Should ask...why do you need one? I believe they are rubber so if you replace one side I'd be inclined to replace both.
djh3 Posted May 5, 2015 #3 Posted May 5, 2015 Who da heck knows why the price difference. Because they can??? I just went out and measured a couple of aspects of them. Only significant difference I can see is a slight taper from left to right. So sitting on the bike looking at the right hand one it is slightly taller on the left side because the fairing drops. (I might be backwards but thats what it does is slope a tad) The dampeners mount with double stick tape if I remember right. If you have a pair of set back risers on your bike they are not even doing any good as they have nothing to support themselves against. Kirby had some round dowel things made up that he sold me that I had to drill and tap and allowed them to mount where the bars used to be and fit in the round part of rubber to help support once bars are moved back. Now if nobody is making those things anymore, I'm thinking a couple of cheap sockets with the proper diameter could be made to work.
videoarizona Posted May 5, 2015 Author #4 Posted May 5, 2015 Don & Dion, I guess it costs more make one slope vs the other! Thanks guys...since the PO says one side fell out....I only have one. Guess I'll look into my surviving damper and order it's mate! For the cost of these guys, I may resort to using epoxy to mount the suckers to the bars!
djh3 Posted May 5, 2015 #5 Posted May 5, 2015 I would order the cheapest one. I bet you can make it work. Wort thing is you might have to add a strip of foam tape to top to take up a smidgin of a gap, but I doublt it. Do you have set back risers on it? If so look at it and you can tell the dampeners are doing nothing, as they have nothing to sit against. The dampener should have double face tape on it I imagine to stick to the flat of triple tree. Clean up with alcohol (not the kind you drink preferably) and mount it up.

Nice thing about being retired...can choose priorities! thanks, david
ragtop69gs Posted May 6, 2015 #7 Posted May 6, 2015 The left and right are not interchangable, the angles are wrong if put on the incorrect side.
djh3 Posted May 6, 2015 #8 Posted May 6, 2015 Absolutly stupid one side is $11 and the other is 20. Thats as dumb as a screen door in a submarine. Gurranty I can make it work .
videoarizona Posted May 18, 2015 Author #9 Posted May 18, 2015 OK...was playing around with the one damper I have....I'm feeling dumb again...can't seem to figure out how that silly thing is supposed to fit?? Of course...the parts diagrams don't do any good! david
djh3 Posted May 19, 2015 #10 Posted May 19, 2015 Here you go. Check this thread out. #5 shows some decent pics that may help you out.
videoarizona Posted May 19, 2015 Author #11 Posted May 19, 2015 Dion, Thanks for the link. Wish I knew why my searches didn't turn up that thread at all. I tried a whole bunch of different search terms, too! Well...now I know. Thanks again! david
videoarizona Posted May 21, 2015 Author #12 Posted May 21, 2015 Well...tried fitting the one damper I have to the bars last night. Duh! Never noticed I have Baron's 1 1/2" riser extensions. Those little rubbers are not going to fit the way they should now! Will have to figure something else out. The lower part of the fairing isn't hitting anything, but it's really, really close! Thoughts for a hot summer day when I can't ride...tool time!
