etcswjoe Posted May 1, 2015 #1 Posted May 1, 2015 Started to rebuild my front master cylinder and when I went to put the piston back in I noticed the rubber seal on the piston that came out is not in the same place as the parts diagram shows. I have attached pic of both, which one is correct? The top one is the new one and the bottom one is the one I removed.
pbjman Posted May 1, 2015 #2 Posted May 1, 2015 Haven't done my venture, but my XJ was like the bottom one. If that's the way it came out, that's the way I'd put the new one.

MiCarl Posted May 1, 2015 #4 Posted May 1, 2015 Any idea how to get seal over the tab on the piston? It does go like the bottom one and you need to S-T-R-E-T-C-H it over. Get it started at one spot and work your way around. I lube it with some brake fluid and use a hook or probe to lift it - be careful you don't stab it with the sharp end. You might practice on the old one.......
djh3 Posted May 2, 2015 #6 Posted May 2, 2015 The way the cup face is pointing on the top one looks like it would just push off the shaft.
etcswjoe Posted May 2, 2015 Author #7 Posted May 2, 2015 I got the seal over the lip fairly easy and finished the rebuild with expert help for just 12 dollars a year
