Went to the parliament buildings today to participate in the annual " Take a MLA (member of the Legislative Assembly) for a ride day". I figure they have been taking us for a ride for a longtime. The transportation minister for the fiberal government came out and announced two new pieces of legislation. One is that motorcycles no longer have to have snow tires in BC. It seems that certain areas such as mountain passes are posted during winter months that vehicles must have snow tires and motorcycles have been getting ticketed for not having them even when there is no snow. The other is that no vehicle may park within 20 feet of a stop sign or intersection. Now motorcycles can use that space to park in. That one makes sense since motorcycles don't block anyone's sight lines. In fact it is hard to get anyone to even see motorcycles.

Kerry, tell me that the snow tire ticketing was just a joke?? That ranks up there with today's article out of Quebec where a 91 year old woman was ticketed $148.00 because a neighbor had complained her rocking chair was squeaking and thereby causing too much noise in the apartment complex ( no previous complaints). Anyways, didn't mean to hijack your thread, just needed to vent a bit. "The more people I meet, the more I love my dog." (Author unknown!) Doug

No joke. Beware going through customs. One guy sat on his bike talking to the customs officer. He had turned the bike off and left the key in the ignition. when he took off his helmet to better talk to the officer he was charged with riding without a helmet. They threatened to confiscate the bike and give him a large fine. He called BCCOM ( British Columbia Coalition of Motorcyclists) who provided a lawyer who called customs and got it straightened out.

Yes @divey it was actuality on the books for a few months in BC because of the wording of the regulation that all motor vehicles traveling certain portions of highways prone to ice and snow are required to use winter tread tires or carry chains during winter months. It has now been added that motorcycles are excluded from this. And yes the RCMP on the "Sea to Sky" highway to Whistler did issue tickets for it to motorcycles.

How absolutely asinine! What manufacturer actually makes winter tires for touring motorcycles? Talk about enforcing the law to the limit!! Same thing about being charged for riding without a helmet while sitting on the bike, engine not running. Frikken major example of an officer's position go to their head. ohhhhhhhhhh my hair is standing on end and I don't even have any ... better I stop! LOL

Perhaps Nina could give you a nice relaxing wax and polish. Looking forward to seeing you at Yreka and both of you on Salt Spring.
