lanster Posted April 30, 2015 #1 Posted April 30, 2015 I just wanted to let yall know that I put two Harbor Freight Bad Boy Horns on my 06 RSV Midnight Hannigan trike. The horns are very loud and only cost $40 a piece plus labor unless you put them on yourself. I feel much safer and cages can definitely hear me.
N3FOL Posted April 30, 2015 #2 Posted April 30, 2015 I plan to do the same thing for my '07 RSV. Harbor Freight I shall be. [emoji41]
videoarizona Posted April 30, 2015 #5 Posted April 30, 2015 Geesh! I was just up thee yesterday. Big sale started. Guess I missed it on the ad. Location: On the 1st gen, I installed mine on the same place the right side stock horn was. Used same wiring to wire the relay. 2nd gen...horn will go on the right side...just in front of the passenger foot rest....when I get the mount. Nice little nook...relay under panel there.
Flyinfool Posted April 30, 2015 #6 Posted April 30, 2015 Ahh yes dual Bad Boys....... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?72811-She-tried-to-get-me
slowrollwv Posted April 30, 2015 #7 Posted April 30, 2015 David your horn will set just behind the floorboard. Here is a pic of mine. http://s253.photobucket.com/user/slowrollwv/media/IMG_0691.jpg.html?sort=3&o=140
lanster Posted May 1, 2015 Author #8 Posted May 1, 2015 I had a dealer install them. I'll stop by and ask the mechanic where he placed them and let you know. I drive by it to/from work. He told me where few months ago-forgot.
videoarizona Posted May 1, 2015 #9 Posted May 1, 2015 Thanks for the pic, Charles. I like that spot!!
Triple J Posted May 1, 2015 #10 Posted May 1, 2015 So are you guys splitting off the set of wires coming from the 1 horn to make it run 2 or are you going into the wiring further?
eagleeye Posted May 1, 2015 #11 Posted May 1, 2015 Thanks for the pic, Charles. I like that spot!! Keep in mind that the HF horns are NOT the chrome one in the picture. They are black and chrome with BIG decals.
slowrollwv Posted May 1, 2015 #12 Posted May 1, 2015 So are you guys splitting off the set of wires coming from the 1 horn to make it run 2 or are you going into the wiring further? When I wired mine I came off the relay with a spliter wire and ran them to both horns. When I put the trumpet horns on I used another relay for that set. When I installed the electric horns under the fairing I ran another relay and used the horn wires from the lower left fairing to activate them.
videoarizona Posted May 2, 2015 #13 Posted May 2, 2015 Decals will come off! I'll wire my relay to be triggered by stock horn. Simple tap off of whichever horn is easiest to deal with, probably front under fairing. I'll leave stock horns connected for 3horn sound... For whatever that's worth. On my 1st Gen, the original horn ads a bit of noise... And it can't hurt!
slowrollwv Posted May 3, 2015 #14 Posted May 3, 2015 David you will never hear the stock horn with the Bad Boys. I made a cover plate for the stock horn location and junked the stock horn.
hoochster Posted May 4, 2015 #15 Posted May 4, 2015 Lanster, I'm in Millington. Which dealer did you use to install them?
hoochster Posted May 9, 2015 #16 Posted May 9, 2015 David your horn will set just behind the floorboard. Here is a pic of mine. http://s253.photobucket.com/user/slowrollwv/media/IMG_0691.jpg.html?sort=3&o=140 Is it an easy install?
slowrollwv Posted May 9, 2015 #17 Posted May 9, 2015 Yes it is an easy install, just remove the rear bole from the passenger floorboard and the pipe hanger bolt and mount the bracket.
lanster Posted August 4, 2015 Author #18 Posted August 4, 2015 Sorry it's been a while. I used Barton's in West Memphis.
flynvy5 Posted August 4, 2015 #19 Posted August 4, 2015 Did you make the passenger highway pegs that are on your bike?
YamahaLarry Posted August 4, 2015 #20 Posted August 4, 2015 David your horn will set just behind the floorboard. Here is a pic of mine. http://s253.photobucket.com/user/slowrollwv/media/IMG_0691.jpg.html?sort=3&o=140 Exactly where I mounted my stebel nautilus.
slowrollwv Posted August 4, 2015 #21 Posted August 4, 2015 Did you make the passenger highway pegs that are on your bike? No they are from Diamond R Accessory pegs.
JohnT Posted August 5, 2015 #22 Posted August 5, 2015 The heck with "safety". I just like it when cagers drop their cell phone / coffee cup / cheeseburger at the sound of my horn. The relay that came with mine gives me t he option of a brief tap tap of my stock horn, or with a 1/4 second extra the air horn kicks in.
spear Posted August 5, 2015 #23 Posted August 5, 2015 I had a dealer install them. I'll stop by and ask the mechanic where he placed them and let you know. I drive by it to/from work. He told me where few months ago-forgot. Maybe you could just blow them and see (hear) where the sound comes from?
dingy Posted August 11, 2015 #24 Posted August 11, 2015 Pictures show a pair of air horns and fog lights mounted on an aftermarket bracket. Markland made them I think. Left one needed an extender to mount horn, needed about 2" shift outboard to mount air horns. I used straps that stock horns use to make it. Not very good pictures, last one shows bracket the best. Gary
lanster Posted August 15, 2015 Author #25 Posted August 15, 2015 Been a while. I have a RSV/Hannigan trike. The horns are inside the trike under where the passenger sits.
