XV1100SE Posted April 29, 2015 #1 Posted April 29, 2015 I'm the second owner of my '09 RSV. Purchased it in July 2010 from the original owner three months after he bought it (he bought it in April of 2010). Only had 2,500 km on it. I think he found the RSV too top heavy since there is a scrape on the bottom side of one of the engine guards. Definitely a different centre of gravity from the 1100 VStar he also rode. I've had two warranty replacements done in the (almost) five years I've owned the bike - one rear speaker and the fuel pump. Last summer my rear shock started "groaning" but I figured since it wasn't leaking nothing would be done under warranty. A couple weeks ago there was a post that said Yamaha USA was replacing shocks which "groaned" since it was an indication that the shock was about to fail. So, yesterday I called my dealer and told them that my shock was groaning and that the bike was near the end of the warranty. They looked it up...and said the warranty ends on April 30th. Wow...3 days left on the warranty! I took the bike in today at lunch, compressed the rear once, shock groaned, and the Service Manager said..."yes, it needs to be replaced". We went into the shop and he called Yamaha who said it would be covered under warranty. 2-3 weeks for a shock to come from Japan. Had I not read the post that groaning shocks were being covered, I wouldn't have called the dealer and probably in the near future would have been out of pocket about $550 for a new OEM shock...but I probably would have gone for the more expensive Works or Hagon. Good thing membership fees aren't what we save per year from what we learn on ventureriders.org !
Flyinfool Posted April 29, 2015 #2 Posted April 29, 2015 That's getting in in under the wire. Much better outcome than my truck at 2 weeks out of warranty. Out is out.......... Hey, don't give anyone any dues ideas.........
