I have been wanting to add an amp to my audio system on the 2nd gen, the problem is I'm not very confident of my abilities when it comes to electrical stuff. Is there anyone that's done an amp install on their 2nd gen that would be willing to help me with that at Freebirds on Saturday?

I upgraded the speakers to Polks 2 years ago.

Jay, I haven't done mine yet, but I'll be glad to help out! The electrical hookup is the easy part, the actual mounting is the hard part with fabricating brackets and finding room etc...

I'll get the mounting sorted out before I get there. Now to figure out which amp to get. I do have an old 50W Jensen amp on the shelf in the garage. Is there such a thing as a high power output but low power consumption amp? If I remember right, the Polks are rated to 150W

Ahhh yes, the old ratings game! Never mind what they say the power out is, what matters is the power in,or how much it draws. The power out ca be expressed in sooo many ways that an honest 10 watts RMS can be 17 watts peak or 34 watts peak to peak, and depending on how much you ram into the input it can be even more watts.

What you want is a power amp that accepts speaker level input to the amp for the easiest wiring install. That way we can just input the speaker wires into the amp and add new wires from the amp to the speakers. Otherwise we will have to butcher up the wiring to get the power amp installed at line level.

Doing the install via speaker wires level will only amplify one pair of speakers though, to do all 4 will either require 2 amps or a X4 amp and that will effectively disable the fader function. Just how loud do you want the system to be???

Good luck. I installed an amp on the '99 and ended up removing it later. It just really didn't help much. The biggest issue with the Venture is those small speakers. The POLKS are better but still a 5" speaker.

Maybe what would be easier and cheaper, and wouldn't put a draw on the system, would be those newfangled things they have now. Somehow you put these in a tight spot somewhere, and then turn them on,,, some even have a volume level button on them. 'course you would have to have a second gen for these to work,, a first gen would be tooo fast I'm sure.
