Finally got around to removing the wheels and installing glass beads in my tires today. ( Thanks a bunch Masterguns)..

I was able to break the tire bead from the rim on the front wheel using a 2 x 4 and a 1 x 2 and the trailer hitch of my avalanche. It looks a whole lot easier to do on you tube than it is in real life.. ha... but I did it.

There was no way I could break the tire bead from the rim on the rear wheel because I have a CT on it.. Had to take it to a tire shop and they didn't charge me a thing to break the bead for me...

So while I was there I purchase 4 brand new 20 inch Michelin tires for my Avalanche..: :mo money:

So they only charged you about $650 to break down the tire for the bike huh? Free tire for Avalanche.

Yea,,, I thought of that after I posted above. Truthfully though, They broke the tire down for me, I installed the beads right then, and he picked up the tire and carried it to my truck. When I closed the tail gate he said There you go. I asked: How much, he said nothing, just come back when you need tires. I said, well, I was telling my wife we are going to need new tires real soon on this thing so lets go inside and see what it will cost.. It was my idea to buy them and after spending $965.68 for four tires, I wanted out of there...

Wowser Them better be purdy nice shoes for that thing. My wifes 02 Durango is needin new shoes soon. I priced them out thru our Dodge dealer and some BFG I think they were are going to run me about $685 for a set. I have found some tires in the 100 range, but then you have to add in mount, balance and the disposal fee you pay for twice.

That sounds like a good deal Eck. The last 20's I bought for my Tahoe were around $1200 (Michelins)

The manager gave me $50.00 off provided I buy them that day, so I did or it would have been a little over 1k for them. Tell you what though, that thing rides so nice now and quiet.. Planning our next trip to Greenville, NC in about two weeks or so...

You know Eck, I just sold my 2007 Avalanche. It was barely adequate for pulling my boat. I plan to just dock the boat this year BUT.....I just found a pristine 2002 3/4 ton Avalanche and am giving it some serious thought. Loaded with moon roof, leather interior, 4X4, etc. Being a 3/4 ton it has the 8.1 big block engine. I love that engine but gas mileage is going to be worse than terrible. On the other hand, it won't get driven very often so .......

It only has 54,000 original miles on it which is extremely low for a 2002 model. Likely because they couldn't afford to drive it with that 8.1 big block.

Sitting here right now debating on it.

Now don't be thinking you can get out of town with that thing,,,, well unless there is a gas station or 2 before the next town.

And an 02, will be ready to show rust real soon,,oiled or not.

If I'm not mistaking here, the 8.1 big block is the corvette engine. Wish mine had it..I am happy with mine for what I use it for though. I don't pull a trailer and if I do it is a flat U-Haul to haul my wing if Konnie and I want to go someplace far from home. It pulls the motorcycle trailer ok, but I would not want to pull an enclosed trailer with it, (very far anyway).

If you need tires, I have two with lots of tread on them - size 20"

Hmm best of my knowledge the Avalance is built on 1500 platform. Never saw any 3/4 ton. Now may have trailer tow package and more gear etc to go with big block. Now I got to go look. OK I stand corrected. Looks like 02-06 they made 3/4 ton.

Yep...my Michelins were about $950 for my Yukon XL at Costco....so I'd say you did fine!
