XV1100SE Posted April 23, 2015 #1 Posted April 23, 2015 After I had some chrome work done on my bike (battery side covers and the plastic piece in front of the battery box), David (The Tooch) asked me about getting his air intakes done. These are the black plastic air intakes that come with the 2nd Gen. They turned out great ! As a first run I was able to get them done for $200 (cash, no tax). After doing them, because prep took longer than expected, any future ones would be $250 (incl tax). The company I had my plastic chromed and David's air intakes done is EZ Chrome in Otterville. http://www.ezchromesolutions.com/
ks_gibby Posted April 23, 2015 #5 Posted April 23, 2015 Never thought of it before, but they could be dipped / "hydrographics" to have any pattern put on them.
XV1100SE Posted April 23, 2015 Author #6 Posted April 23, 2015 Looks nice! Any pics of them installed? Once The Tooch puts them on his bike I'm sure he'll post pics. For more info, this link talks about some different ways to chrome plastic - http://www.thehogring.com/2012/10/16/6-ways-to-transform-plastic-into-chrome/ The do it yourself kit I was looking at originally is called SuperChrome - http://superchrome.ca/. Check out their "hydra chrome" too. http://superchrome.ca/hydra_chrome.php From looking into this, there are several products on the market now. Even HomeDepot sells a product called "Killer Chrome" that you can do yourself. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Alsa-Refinish-Killer-Chrome-Kit-KC-KCH-Kit/204171696
stickhandle2 Posted April 23, 2015 #7 Posted April 23, 2015 They look great....maybe just maybe it is time for more shiny stuff on the bike, thanks Don. Mike
StarFan Posted April 23, 2015 #8 Posted April 23, 2015 Don. Thanks for this great post. Have been meaning to do this for a long time. You surely put me on track ! Be safe.
XV1100SE Posted April 23, 2015 Author #9 Posted April 23, 2015 The hydrographics look neat. On another thread a link was sent to a you tube video showing it being done. Looks simple but I would think it takes practice
ragtop69gs Posted April 23, 2015 #10 Posted April 23, 2015 I remember that hydrographics post, that was some kool stuff.
XV1100SE Posted April 26, 2015 Author #11 Posted April 26, 2015 David picked up the chrome intakes today. I had mine done and he gave me his today in exchange. I've posted what the chromed intakes look like but here are the old and "new" side by side. I'm sure David will post pics once he gets them on his bike. They look great !
The Tooch Posted April 28, 2015 #12 Posted April 28, 2015 Well I got them on but still haven't got the lowers back on........More Bling!! They look great Don. Glad I thought of it and that you could make it happen. Tell your man he did good and I'm very happy with the way they turned out.

Mover Posted July 10, 2018 #16 Posted July 10, 2018 Those look great. What kind of turn around time would it be? A winter project? Thanks Mover
XV1100SE Posted July 10, 2018 Author #17 Posted July 10, 2018 Those look great. What kind of turn around time would it be? A winter project? Thanks Mover It is a 3 step process. Start with a fine sanding of the plastic air intakes then there are 3 coatings that are applied to get the finish. Can be done over a couple days. They look great. I tried the web link you gave but it is not for a chrome shop. Thanks, labill The company I used in Otterville Ontario was out of a person's house and they may not do it anymore. If you look at the Superchrome link you can get the kit and do it yourself. There are other options out there too. If you do a search for "plastic plating" or "chrome plastic" you should be able to find a shop local to you that can do it.

The Tooch Posted July 12, 2018 #20 Posted July 12, 2018 Oh! Those were so Purdy! Bling! Bling! Originally I had them on my 2005 but that bike got written off. I was able to save the air intakes and took them off and kept them for my 2013. When I traded in the 2013, I took them off and sold them to Wayne (Wizard765) so they are still out there on his 2000 M. This is my 2013, they really stood out on the black bike.........
