Motiv Posted April 12, 2015 #1 Posted April 12, 2015 Came across this on you tube, kinda cool. Goldwing Drag Racing:
cowpuc Posted April 12, 2015 #2 Posted April 12, 2015 COOL!!!!!!! That Honda got into the 13's!! Heyyyyyyyyy,, wait a minute here, wait just a dog gone minute, a big guy picking on a little feller eay!! That aint fair,,,, we need to dig around and see if we can find a similar vid of an 84 Honda Goldwing 1200 vrs a 1984 Yamaha Venture - stock for stock - apples and apples - man o' to man o' (been there, done that - LOT OF FUN!!).. Or,, toss some bags and a fairing one of them stock 1700cc Yamaha v-4 V-max jobs,, at least that would be closer to 1800cc's and would be a little fairer race....:witch_brew: Good one Motiv - NICE!!!
friesman Posted April 12, 2015 #3 Posted April 12, 2015 the Goldwings will eat the Ventures lunch everytime. That's not to say our ventures aren't a great bike but they just don't have the same HP that the Goldwing does. Brian
videoarizona Posted April 12, 2015 #4 Posted April 12, 2015 Wonder how it would do against an early 1st gen?
Motiv Posted April 12, 2015 Author #6 Posted April 12, 2015 If you notice the wing get a better holeshot every time.
CMCOFFEY Posted April 12, 2015 #7 Posted April 12, 2015 I'd put my 84 against his GW any day or an older GW. I think there is a lot that can made up for by the rider.
Skid Posted April 13, 2015 #8 Posted April 13, 2015 My old First Gen would take the 1800 GoldWing in the first 1/8 mile, but after that the Wing pulled away.
Snarley Bill Posted April 13, 2015 #9 Posted April 13, 2015 i saw first hand wingman and swifty on his first gen bash one off at vogel. wing man won. i asked wingman how fast he topped out at and he said 135 mph. i raced several ventures with my 09 wing and dusted them bad. not even close. they say my stratoliner will run with a wing when it was stock. i can't tell by feel because they feel totally different. my strat is modified and very fast and could possibly beat a wing. it will do 135 easily.
MikeWa Posted April 13, 2015 #10 Posted April 13, 2015 Great post. Excellent camera work and editing. Looks like the Venture did good but if he didn't already have it the v-max rear end mod would help immensely. Mike
MasterGuns Posted April 13, 2015 #11 Posted April 13, 2015 Watching a wing and a 2d edition in a drag race is like watching grass grow.
Yammer Dan Posted April 13, 2015 #12 Posted April 13, 2015 Better rider on the wing. Sugar would have busted that one 1/8th or 1/4!!
MasterGuns Posted April 13, 2015 #13 Posted April 13, 2015 i saw first hand wingman and swifty on his first gen bash one off at vogel. wing man won. i asked wingman how fast he topped out at and he said 135 mph. i raced several ventures with my 09 wing and dusted them bad. not even close. they say my stratoliner will run with a wing when it was stock. i can't tell by feel because they feel totally different. my strat is modified and very fast and could possibly beat a wing. it will do 135 easily. The only way a GW would do 135 is if you dropped it out of a C-130 at 30,000 ft, then only maybe.
midnightrider1300 Posted April 13, 2015 #14 Posted April 13, 2015 If you notice the wing get a better holeshot every time. reaction time for that 1 GW rider was pretty dang good. he had the hole shot everytime...
Snarley Bill Posted April 13, 2015 #15 Posted April 13, 2015 so i guess your calling me or wingman a liar.
MasterGuns Posted April 13, 2015 #16 Posted April 13, 2015 What I'm sayin, is the fastest time either wing turned was mid 13's and the 1/4 miles speed was 95 mph. To get another 40 mph is impossible unless you was on an R1 or FJR. And wing also have a very optimistic speedo.
Motiv Posted April 13, 2015 Author #17 Posted April 13, 2015 I do believe he means in the 1/4 mile, sure a wing will do 135 on the open road.so i guess your calling me or wingman a liar.
Motiv Posted April 13, 2015 Author #18 Posted April 13, 2015 I'm proud of the venture for holding it's own with 538 cc's and 20 hp less than the wing.
midnightventure Posted April 14, 2015 #19 Posted April 14, 2015 I am betting that when any Japanese bikes speedo says 135 it is doing less than 120. The faster they go the further off their speedo is in my experience.
videoarizona Posted April 14, 2015 #20 Posted April 14, 2015 My 1st gen is doing 75mph with speedo doing 78. Seems to be -3mph across the board. Haven't gone over the century mark... yet.... so can't tell ya about that.
RedRider Posted April 14, 2015 #21 Posted April 14, 2015 The Venture could have had a chance if the rider remembered the rev limiter. He shifted to 4th every time. No need. Top speed showed to be about 90-95 mph. We can do that in 3rd - and get there quicker. However, it looked like they were having a great time. Cool video. RR
djh3 Posted April 14, 2015 #22 Posted April 14, 2015 6 cyl vs 4 and more cubic inch. Both being stock, there aint no substitute for cubic inches. Alot to be said for rider control also.
Barrycuda Posted April 16, 2015 #23 Posted April 16, 2015 Who cares how fast they go against one another in the grand scheme of things. Bottom line is 2 excellent touring bikes, that munch miles and either bike wins in their own specific categories...it's a win win, since I don't ride at such dangerous speeds and I like to blast my radio on super heavy metal while passing old folks here in the blue haired state....
Kirby Posted April 16, 2015 #24 Posted April 16, 2015 If I remember right way back when the wing first came out as a 1000cc 4 cylinder engine without all the extra stuff like fairings and saddlebags, one of the bigger motorcycle magazines(I think it was either Cycle magazine or Cycle World magazine) tested the bike in the 1/4 mile at somewhere in the 12's.

So my buddy who chooses to utilize the name of one of the fastest fish in the ocean for his screen name, rides a bike that can put a whoppin on us all , goes flying by us with his :guitarist 2:ripping up the air foil that he is leaving in the wake of that gorgeous Wing, comes meekly into our wound licking contest here and tries to console us riders with a "who cares how fast they go" comment Sure Barry,, I know your tricks,,,, you just want us 1st Gen riders to buy 2nd Gen's so will you always get to the :essen_018:first!!!!
