Well I dont know why he did it, but he did He bought himself a 2003 Honda CB900F. A little crotch rocket if you will. He said I could take it for a spin but he told me no wheelies and DONT go over a hundred, so I threw on the full face helmet and away I went. Now I'm sure some of you have ridden rockets so this wont be surprising BUT it is a completely alien feel compared to the venture. You actually have to hold yourself up and its alot touchier. I've ridden 3 crotch rockets in my life now and this on is the biggest. I took a right off our street and headed up a U-shaped hill in my town that we creatively call "The Horn" and was enjoying the totally different ride. Right away I learned why you have to sit that crotch rockety way on a crotch rocket. Turns out on one of those if you're sitting straight up itll actually force not only you, but the whole center of gravity back on the bike and itll basically point her noise straight at the sun :D So i got it out on the highway and pulled over enough to get a mile or two between me and the next car, leaned on the gas tank and rolled on the throttle. You have to roll on the throttle on this one which is different in itself cuz itll just throw you if you open it up all the way in first! So i zipped through first, had a rough switch to second because the clutch is a little jumpy at 9k Rpms and got it up to third. I looked down with the thought of seeing maybe 95 or a 100 on that little speedo but I was amazed and shocked to see 125+ by the middle of third gear. I backed off the throttle and babied it into town with the realization that it is a GOOD THING I dont own one of these monsters.

I'd just like to mention that 120 in 3rd out of 6 gears leaves how much for top end? Noone needs to ever go that fast!!!!

I was just waiting for you to say that as soon as you got out of your brothers hearing range - you waved the front wheel at the sun and rode er out thru three gears!:Cool_cool36:

Indeed, they are stupid fast!!:Bunny:

And that is why I stay away from those things!!! NOT made for speed junkies!!!

TOTALLY AGREE DAN, buddy had an R1 - 102 mph in 1st gear!! NOT KIDDING!! He was trying to lure me into getting one - I told him it would = a speeding ticket a day for me!! Another really close friend has been building hill climb bikes out of them for years - they literally rocket up these National Hill Climb hills - just like a rocket :rotfl:

There I go again, hijackin another one:no-no-no:,, sorry Cha:doh:

I think if I had something that fast I would be driving with no license.........

My next door neighbor is still trying to talk me into trading bikes for a day ride.

As much as I would like to take his Hayabusa GSX1300R with the rear wheel extension for a spin, I just know he will drop my poor venture. He has dropped his Busa 3 times last summer that I know of.

That's why I've called them "Plastic Sh!!ters" they look like someone on the throne when I see them. Fun ride though.

Actually, that one is more of a "standard" seating position. Based on the photo, it has standard bars, not clip ons. I have a B12 Bandit that is quite like the 900F only faster:banana:.

With lowered pegs and 1 inch bar risers, I can ride it as long as I can the Venture in complete comfort. I have ridden it to the mountains on 3 occasions and had a great time on it.

Believe it or not, those bikes are in the Sport Touring category but I rather consider them more of a "hooligan"type bike for we older gents.

The FJR, now that's a Sport Tourer of the highest degree. Crazy and deceptively fast and oh so comfy.:680:

The speed I don't mind But i cannot see myself looking at the pavement 6" ahead of the front wheel for 5 miles never mind 500 miles. I would have to learn to ride that thing like a unicycle just so I could look were I am going LOL

Around here we call it 'the crotch rocket pose'.... Left hand on the left thigh, right hand on the throttle, and sitting straight up facing about 10:00 O'clock... I guess they think it's cool..??..

So I am talking to one of these young "stunt" rider "kids" after a show one time,, talk about TALENT!! Anyway, I tell him how impressed I was with his skills on the crotch rocket. Of course, being a geezer, it wasnt long and the discussion turned to long distance touring and I made the comment about how uncomfortable I would get after a 16 hour day with my belly resting on a tank and head bent back so I could see where I was going.. This young man was telling me that these rockets are actually designed for speeds above 140.. Apparently and according to him, above 140 the air comes off the front fairing and lifts your body so you are riding on a huge pillow of air..

I mentioned this "air ride" idea to Tippy, she smiled and said "dont forget - we have a 100 mph limit at all times" (I love flying the back country of the deserts, another flaw). I smiled back and told her I doubted the tent would stay on at 150 anyway..
