djh3 Posted April 1, 2015 #1 Posted April 1, 2015 I dont know why I think I need this. The CD player is great what I would call "around town" or if not going over night. If we take longer trips I have to dump the CD player to make room for necessary stuff like rain gear, clothes and the like. So I have watched off and on for the I-simple things to show up here and there. Yamaha thinks the dang things are made of gold and so does the folks that own them. I own absolutely nothing apple past the frit type in the kitchen. And have no idea how they work or you copy music to them or anything. Now the plug and play one Yamaha sells has some special made cables as I have been able to see and poke around. I e-mailed I-simple folks and told them I needed a i-simple gateway to connect to a c-bus. They informed me they have several, which car did I have. when I told them it was a RSV that was the end of any help, much as I figured. They dont want to help anyone back door they $200+ units from Yamaha I'm sure. If I can locate a female connector to work on the c-bus I think I can make the correct connectors so us regular folks could just buy the less expensive units and use them. Still get control off the handle bars as the Yamaha units. So I have a couple questions. I tried looking for a while tonight for a c-bus female connector without much success. I found a few cables with one male and one female, but if I am cutting the females off to make the adapter this gets expensive. Will a 13 pin din female connector work? It sure looks like the same animal. Second question is would I be able to sell a few of these things do you think? It would allow a fellow to purchase the gateway for around $80-120 and an Ipod for $20-60 or whatever you want to spend on it. Or just use your phone I suppose if its an Apple. And of course you would have to have the adapter cable I would build. I sure wouldn't try to kill the pocket books of folks like some companies do. right now I dont know what I would have to charge for the cables, because I dont know if I am going to have to buy $20 c-bus cables and cut them up, or I will be able to buy individual parts. Same with the plug that goes into the I-simple. It looks to be a standard like 22 pin flat double row job. I think I have seen them around, maybe even in computer parts like the power cords to the MOB.
mcgwire723 Posted July 3, 2015 #2 Posted July 3, 2015 did anyone get you the info on the I simple? if no my RSV has one, I can get the model number for you.
djh3 Posted July 3, 2015 Author #3 Posted July 3, 2015 Ah not that I remember. I guess I lost interest. But post it if you would, then if someone is looking for same info. I probably have an e-mail somewhere about part numbers. I think I found I could get one for a Lexus or something.
flynvy5 Posted July 3, 2015 #4 Posted July 3, 2015 I would be interested in one of these as well. I do have an iPhone 4s that I would load music onto for long trips.
djh3 Posted July 3, 2015 Author #5 Posted July 3, 2015 You know I think that was one of the deterrents to pursuing this project. Once I found out how much they wanted for i-pod even used I was like never mind. The newer i-pod touches still go for over $100 for like and 8gb.
BratmanXj Posted July 3, 2015 #6 Posted July 3, 2015 Just installed an iSimple on my buddies HD SE Ultra last week. The model he picked up had RCA & 3.5mm outputs so I don't see why you couldn't just Y off the existing radio input and include the iSimple Bluetooth box into the system on the standard Aux input.
djh3 Posted July 4, 2015 Author #7 Posted July 4, 2015 Well the factory Yamaha connects to the CD player cable in the left saddle bag. Usnig the C-bus connector allows it to be controlled via the handlebar control. Thats kind of what I was hoping for.
dacheedah Posted July 17, 2015 #8 Posted July 17, 2015 I ran the wire out of my bag from the isimple and we connect to my iphone, keeps it charged we run pandora and gps at the same time.
djh3 Posted July 17, 2015 Author #9 Posted July 17, 2015 I go in to many thought patterns at a time. Now thinking maybe the Sena SMH 10 may be the way to go.
Ventureless Posted July 17, 2015 #10 Posted July 17, 2015 I go in to many thought patterns at a time. Now thinking maybe the Sena SMH 10 may be the way to go. Sena an is great and simple to use. I have the smh5 and since I don't have a smart phone of any kind, I use one of my wife's old android phones and just downloaded all my music to it. Works perfectly. Also works great bike to bike when riding with another buddy who has one as well. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
djh3 Posted July 17, 2015 Author #11 Posted July 17, 2015 One of the reasons I am leaning to the 10 is the way it connects. The cradle had better reviews and I like that there is several options as far as speakers vs ear buds or you can plug in a source via wire if you want. But for the most part , yea I think the 5 does the job. And as for the i simple thing the i pods that work with it are high even in the used market.
vzuden Posted July 18, 2015 #12 Posted July 18, 2015 I went with the Uclear brand. We love them. No boom mic or wired mic since they are built into the speakers
