Brenner Posted March 30, 2015 #1 Posted March 30, 2015 Ain't it the way? I tried so hard to do a perfect job on my paint and bodywork. Fighting it for some time and finally it wins. I walk away and give up and then tell myself just to get it together and have it decent looking so I can get some miles on it then I can comeback to the battle and redo the paint more to my liking with the inspiration from liking the bike. Well with that thought I walk into my shop today and do a quick sand and spray a new coat of base and it lays out decently, and I think "Should I press my luck?" so on goes the clear. Dang it!!! It looks better than when I was fighting myself and trying to do a professional job. Don't get me wrong it has some imperfections as it is shot in a garage but from 5 feet away it will look fine. So now to let it dry so I can start reassembly and once I ride it and am sure I like it I will make another paint set of reuse these panels and use the existing paint as a sealed base to work on top of. I find I am coming so close to using cowpucs idea of stickers but I know I will not be able to travel and gather them as quickly as he does so I need the base paint to look somewhat presentable until then. If things go along decently I will need to post pics next week. Wednesday is my deadline and it needs to be ready to be plated and insured then. Wish me luck and lots of patience.
SilvrT Posted March 30, 2015 #4 Posted March 30, 2015 Hey Brenner, I can relate. When I was re-doing my '87, I was constantly having "fogging" issues. Meaning, it was a tad too cool in my garage and a lot of humidity due to constant rain so areas of the paint would turn a "milky" shade. I bet I re-did it 3 times and maybe more on some panels as I was using a cheap spray gun and sometimes couldn't get a level coat. In the end though, it did turn out extremely well. What frustrated me the most was I've done many, many paint jobs as I used to own a body/paint shop but then I had all the right equipment and proper paint booth environment. Goes to show that if you don't have decent equipment or environment, producing a quality job is not always easy to do. On top of that I'm somewhat a perfectionist so I would re-do over the slightest imperfection.
Wizard765 Posted March 30, 2015 #5 Posted March 30, 2015 Good luck Brenner.. Looking forward to hearing a ride report and seeing some pics
Brenner Posted March 30, 2015 Author #7 Posted March 30, 2015 I have posted a new thread for those that have asked for pics and were patient enough to wait. "Ask and you shall receive"
